GM S/C and Port and polished head....?
Saturday, February 26, 2005 3:51 PM
i planing on getting my head port and polished and the whole bit, but what i was thinking is that when i have that done wont that decrease the amount of boost but at the same time increase the efficiency from the supercharger because of the lesser restriction of the higher flowing head?

also wouldn't the engine run cooler with the port and polished head as apposed to a none ported head with the same pulley,so that allowing for even smaller pulleys to be put on? or would the supercharger still create the same amount of head even if the head was higher flowing

i dunno its just something Ive been thinking about

let me know what you guys think

If you port and polish your head, you will be getting more hp per psi... so you will be getting the same power after from the 6psi pulley as you would with a 8 or 9psi before the port & polish and the supercharger wont over heating and there for you wont get knock from your engine

a p&p can lower the amount of boost you make. But its a good thing its all about flow not about pressure. engines are just air pumps anyhow

i think someone on here did that, and noticed a 1-2 psi loss after pnp'ing the head....

when port and polishing a head for a supercharged engine, are there any special considerations u have to make over a n/a port & polish??

Just remember that if you're using the s/c reflashed ecu that if the map sensor sees lower boost pressure it adds less fuel.

I dont think your gonna see less boost if you port and polish your head. When i had my head ported,i was still seeing 8-9 psi.

Flow should always take precedence over pressure.

i dunno if your situation would apply to the gm charger as its a different setup all to gether yours is actualy more along the lines of a turbo rather then a roots charger, as in you have a wastegate and blow off valve to control boost where we only have the wastegate and the pulley size has full control over the boost

i dunno

and Raptor i agree,

but lets get back on track ... would this cause a change in the pressure of the charge and would it make the charger run cooler alowing smaller pulleys to be used is my question

do a search of the posts, i KNOW i saw someone post that they had lower psi with their pnp head.....
