95-97 OHV junkyard boost setup
Thursday, March 03, 2005 7:44 AM
ok boost guru's. this is a much different build than i did on my last motor (read profile, you'll cry). I've got the LN2 this time around and I've got leftover turbo and smic to boost it with. I only want to run 6 pounds right now on my DSM TD05 14b turbo. What fuel system mods do I need to make to get a nice aggressive tune out of this project and can the 3spd + OD Izuzu tranny take this... or is there a shift kit for the 3spd AOD. Thanks.

i can tell you much as far as the air/fuel ratios you might want to run....however i can tell you that no there is no shift kit for the 3spd auto, im guessing by OD you mean overdrive, so its the 4spd auto, which in that case yes they do make a shift kit, i think rk sport sells it .....and its not an izuzu, thats the 5spd manual that was used before the getrag

All 95-99 transmissions, automatic or manual, are Isuzu. All 00-05 transmissions, automatic or manual, are Getrag.

What LN2 is it? The 95-97 or the 98-02?

LOL, should have read the title eh?

You'll need to add extra fuel somehow, I'd look into an EIC for that engine.

there is a shift kit for the 3spd auto...look on the internet, but if its the 4spd, he can get a trans interceptor. but, it wont help that sucker take that kinda horsepower...those suckers are weak...you will need to have the gears treated and hardened....full rebuild from the ground up, lotsa cash....they arent meant to safely hold much more power than stock. get a holly fuel pump from high rev and a fuel pressure regulater from apc or weapon r.

depending on how much boost you'd be running (and turbo size, etc etc etc) I know of a few people running 6 or 7 lbs with a cartech/BEGI adj. FMU.

I know of one boosted cavy running an 8:1 vortech FMU on 6lbs running no probs. That was also with a t3/t4.

just my few cents.

I was thinking of the Vortech 8:1 FMU yesterday, that is my best bet until I can figure out the intake manifold situation. I'm going to get another one next week to have my fabricator take a look at it, and see if we can convert to topfeed somehow.

Shifted: I have the 95-97 LN2 (the 98-02 is the LN4). And yes it is the 3spd auto... which is 3spd + OD so I guess I will search the internet for shift kits. What model is the tranny in case I run into part #s etc? Thanks!

I call

Why?

Here is a simple answer.

E-mail from 2/14/05: (a few days before I told him about JBO, check his join date)
Quote:

hey man i just saw your car on cardomain and i wanted to chat with you a little
bit about the quad 4. if you are using that 086 head and the LO exhaust cam,
try and find yourself a good deal on the W41-spec exhaust cam. but be careful
with your bottom end because the 95 quad 4 does not like to make power, just a
crossover year and has tons of problems. if you know much about the W41
powerplant and how badass it is... i know of one that i was going to purchase,
the yard wants $1200 shipped for motor, tranny, ecu, and wiring harness. let me
know if you've got any questions or anything.

E-mail from 2/15/05:
Quote:

here is my problem, my car is a late 95 so it's OBD2. i have no idea how to swap
the W41 in. the only way i was thinking was a conversion harness but i know next
to nothing about wiring. my cardomain is www.cardomain.com/id/tmsophisticated
but it's pretty outdated. my plans for the W41 now are to just build it n/a and
run 11:1 compression, i/h/e, bolt-ons, and maybe some nitrous. you can get
better info about my car right now at
http://www.teamsophisticated.com/viewtopic.php?t=502

E-mail from 2/16/05 (I also told him this time all the differences between USDM and JDM cavs since he wanted the whole JDM thing)
Quote:

my car is OBD2, and i know all about the JDM cavaliers. i have the inner and
outter tails. i also have all the engine bay caps. i'm not planning on
converting, i just hav some of the jdm goodies.

The last e-mail I responded to on 2/16/05
Quote:

ah ok i see. but if i use a manual gauge cluster out of a 95 then i get no tach.
i'l just get the cluster out of a 99 Z24

I will post all of my replies to him if you guys want. He never owned a boosted W41. He probably read about it on the Quad forums or something and dropped a load in his shorts. BUSTED

i'm thinking right now about the injectors since i got the rest about figured out:

e-manage, aeromotive adjustable fpr, larger throttle body, etc. but the tranny is still the weakest link.
