Check engine light on with GM supercharger
Monday, March 07, 2005 11:12 PM
ok well i just got my car back from getting reflashed today and not 15 min of driving i get the check engine light, and i am thinking ahhh crap, so i pull over check every thing oil levels are good ect... and then i got into a race with a 93 or so Camaro and i think i surprised me and him (but thats another story) and then my check engine light started flashing (at this point i am almost freaking out ahaha) so i baby it home and try disconnecting the battery and left it off for a good hour as i had other things on the go and came back hoping it would rest the light but it didn't.. so i talk to a guy who lives by me with this kit and (he has had it on since it came out) and his check engine light has been on ever since too and the dealer cant seem to get it off.. so does any one else with this kit have this problem? and how can i solve it?

Well i tried to search for the answer and didn't find it.. so i looked through the GM shop manual i have for my car and it said it could be as simple as the quality of fuel i put in my car... I had to stop off at the Esso since i had no gas and i needed a fill and put in the highest octane they had which was i think 87... might be wrong.. do you think 91 would be better? and maybe fix this problem?

I ran mine with 87octane for the first 250 miles in 80* heat because i filled up not too long before the install, and i didnt ge a CEL for it. get the code scanned could be a bad connection at one of the sensors. i thinjk when it blinks from what ive read it may be a misfire problem and youll have to regap the plugs to a smaller gap( i have not had this problem once). my cel has come on and it was a bad post cat o2 sensor, changed it out and no problems since... id go to autozone and get it scanned for free and thatll give you a place to start. good luck...................Patrick

blinking means get it checked ASAP

I think other people that blinkd it turned out to be a fuel problem, I am probably wrong because I cant remember

Didn't get a little sticker that says " PREMIUM FUEL ONLY " You have to run 91 octane or better with the S/C...

You absolutely must run premium. You will detonate with anything lower. I suggest you get a couple bottles of octane booster and dump it in there ASAP.

You're in Canada dude, go for Sunoco 94, I dunno if they have 94 in Calgary, I think some provinces have different maximums. I use Sunoco 94 all the time since I had the cams & head done and the engine loves it.

I live my life a 1/4 mile at a time and for those 15 seconds, I realize, I need boost.

Ya with any force Induction... 93 + don't want the engine to get knocking... and if that didn't work.. maybe replace the O2 sensor on the Cat....

Just my 2 cents

You say on your way from the reflash your light came on, why didn't you turn right back around and go to the dealer and have them look at it?

i was thinking the same thing

and flashing check engine light means its missfiring

I remember some guys having problems with the gap on the spark plugs...That was causing misfiring.....I think they were gapping them at .05? instead of .035...........

.035 instead of .050 I thought....

I had the misfire code too, and if you want to know why the CEL light is really on, go to Autozone or back to the dealer, and premium gas is a must, I ran nothing but 93/94.

Lately I have not had the CEL blinking. I still have it at the GM's recommendations. I had the plugs gapped at 0.35 and the idle for me was so-so and the carbon deposit greater too, so later I left it at 0.50 (GM's number).
I will look into the RKS boots later on if starts blinking once again.

Blinking CEL is a misfire for sure!! I would guess fuel, but could be plugs. I would start with fuel.

Yea im thinking it is the gas i put in... i dont remember the octane.. but it was the highest Esso had.. (dont think it was 91) i just couldnt wait to rip around in it... so i think i will go re gap my plugs as they are at .5 right now (install said to put them at that) and put some octane booster in

I will use 95 octane gas when my car be boosted. I hope that will be soon.
