Tomorrow 10.5-11PSI on ECO!
Wednesday, March 09, 2005 2:02 PM
Well guys I just put a Turbo on my Eco and some of you might know me from my 2.4L motor, and currently I am running 6 psi.
Tomorrow is the track day and if it doesn't rain here in Florida like it always does I am going to run about 11 psi on a stock Eco.
Well not really stock mods are in the registry.

Anyways I am going to run a Nitrous kit Fuel soleniod, to take over from 6 psi to 11 psi.
So that way I don't lean out.
Ok now, before I do this I have a question I want to ask some Eco owners or anyone that is running STOCK TACH in the car.
Last night I took my boy for a spin on 6 psi and I hit rev limiter in 1st and 2nd cause the tires just spun loose and even tho the tach was showin 5000 rpm I was at like 6500.
Now, I don't think it is fast enough to keep up with the revs of the motor.
Anyone ever had that problem before??
Is there anything I can do except get a new tach?? To speed it up?
On Nitrous I never had that happen, but on a 55 shot the RPM's are NOT climbing that fast neither. lol

Well wish me luck and thanks for the help guys.

BTW, the way I am going to run 10.5-11 psi is.
I have a 9psi spring and 3 shims on a Turbonetics external and each of the shims is about .5 psi, and most of the time it gives you a little more.
I ain't pulling it out of my ass. lol

This is a problem with the newer cars, the Eco's (all versions) in particular. Basically its just too slow.

So pretty much just shift soon, or listen to the motor ah??
I mean if the RPM's shoot up so damn fast now at 6 psi imagine how fas they will shoot up with like 10-11. Damn I shouldn't have sold my 5 inch tach, but now I know what people mean when they say the stock one is not accurate enough. lol

Well wish me luck guys, I am going to go to my firends house right now and get his DSM 450cc injectors and see if I can get them to fit on the ECO.
I know I will, but god will the car just eat the gas with those in it.

Well I came back and we soldered the low impedance plugs on for the injectors, so it will work with Ecotec system.
It is funny how no matter what car it is weather it is a GM, Ford (TB Turbo Coupe), or a DSM, if they are low impedance injectors they use the same plug.
So injectors look like they might fit, I tried the 360's already and they were too tall, but I could have made them fit if the weren't clogged from sitting for like 3+ months.
Well these were out for a month and screw me if they are bad yet.

So wish me luck with these DSM injectors guys and with getting er done.

Umm if the eco runs high impedance injectors!! But good luck tommorrow. Let us know what she runs. Yeah my tach is about 1000-1200 rpms slow but only in first gear so i usually shift as soon as it hits 5000rpm. After that when the tach is reading right i shift at 5500rpm since my car made peak power at 5250 rpm. Keeps me right in my power band the whole lenght of the track. If i took it any hire it would just bog between shifts

See Boosted I was told that you can run the low impedance injectors on a high impedance system and they will work fine, but you cannot do it vice versa cause the high impedance injectors will burn out the drives on a low system.
Somthing like that.
Well I am goign to try it and see, the Eco fired up with the 360's in it but it was running on 2 cylinders and when I pulled the injectors out only 2 of them had fuel going throught the other 2 were dry.

I'm pretty sure its the other way around ,to use high impedence injectors you will need to use some resistors .

Yes, please let us know. My turbo setup is close to yours, with a few more goodies. I am anxious to see how it runs.

you could try paying attention to the speedometer instead if thats keeping up instead of the tach. I dont have a tach, so i just shift using the Speedometer... it keeps up fine for me. Course.. im not trying to push 11psi :p

He had major fuel issues, I'm not sure if he actually got a chance to run.
