Yea you need to make an appointment.. but it takes like an hour to do once they start. I put my kit in starting Friday night (didn't really do much then), then i did a bit more on sat. but i had to work but i called in and made an appointment for Monday morning (first they told me to go get it tuned some where else, so my dad called and they finally figured out that GM did make s 2.4L S/C kit). Then i finished it Sunday and towed it down to the dealership that night, and it was ready by like 10:30ish (maybe earlier, thats just when i picked it up) Monday morning.
As for driving it to get reflashed, you can i guess but personally i didn't want to take the risk, i mean it runs like @!#$ once you start it up (it will run fine for about 30sec then just die) but if you drive it down your block and back it gets better and might be fine to take out on the roads but i didn't want to chance it.

It's my understanding that as long as you leave the stock MAP sensor in and tie open the bypass, it should drive more or less ok.

This is my plan, and thanks for the heads-up on tying open the bypass before putting it in. I'll do that.

The instructions actually mention something about getting the reflash done with the PCM removed from the car. I'm going to look into whether my dealer can do that.

If they can, I'll try to have it reflashed BEFORE we do the install so when we're done, it will be good to go.

Tell them GM offers a warranty on it and powertrain. Which they do on 00-02 J's.

WW most dealers i know didnt want to spend the money for the parts dept to have the off the car programers for the pcm's

so most with out the car will not reflash the pcm

but that is here in the states , not sure about the north of the border dealers

Now that my network doesn't suck and i can check your profile and you do have a 00-02 you are covered under the GM warranty. Others on here prob know the specifics of it.

Drunken purchases rule. I bought a new motor mount and autometer cf gauge cup because I was bored and drunk.

yea i talked it over with them and told it one way or another im gonna keep it and if they were going to make me send it back i was just gonna order it when im 18 with the money i have put away in the bank. So they were like fine if it means that much u can keep it. But basically after i get the charger im gonna save cash and use that to open my exhaust up and other things to improve the flow. so that i can get more power out of it. Basically once i can get the hp and tq over 200 i will be happy

This is actually what I was suspecting might be the case. I'll call sometime today to find out.

I figured there might be some extra parts or something they'd need to hook up the PCM without having the port under the dash to use. With that in mind, I figured they would probably have lost or broken it or something since there's generally just about nil reason to do such a thing.

Here's hopin'...

Best of luck to you, Kevin. When I installed mine, I went to about 4 or 5 different dealers, and they all said they needed the whole car, not just the ecm.

well i cant get my charger installed till i can come up with money now. I wish i could find out who stole my tools cause hes costing me so much. But anyways I should be boosting by june if everything goes 2 plan. Do I have to pay for anything when i get my reflash? Cause i might be able to get a neighbor or someone to borrow me tools or garage to install my charger.

Damn. What happened between those two posts? You went from getting it done today to not getting it done until June. Did you not think the dealer was going to charge you for the installation?

I'm actually looking into this right now so I'm really not sure. It's my understanding that the cost of the reflash is included in the price of the kit... but if the dealer doesn't know that then it won't do you much good. They don't work for free.

I've got my dealer looking into it so they'll have the 411 when I come in.

Too bad... now you're gonna have to work and save like the rest of us. Might want to pick a new name to post with in the meantime... hehe.

I may of got a way to get around having to take my car to the dealer. My buddy's dad works at a local firestone so im gonna ask him if he can help me with the install. so then basically then only thing that is holdin me back now is the fact if the reflash is gonna cost me or not. leme know how it goes for u weasel

This what I did.

I took my my car by tow truck after installing it at home. Yhea I heard , you can drive it and all, but I like my car and well I decided to go the safer route of towing.

The cost of the reflash IS included, but the cost of labor is not. This was when I called GMPP. So I got charged 1hr work $75.

I was with the mechanic (which I know well from HS) and I was there seeing it step by step. Download the program via OBD-2 or Tech-2 plug under the dash. IC was going crazy, it said a bunch of words, then Tech-2 said S/C is recognized and start-engine.

Then I immediately started for the first time with the S/C. Took off with the mech to check if everything worked well. Then the whole dealer wanted a joy ride!

I also recommend to get Premium fuel ASAP or just have it in.

Good luck and drive safely WW, because it is addicting.

Im gonna set something up with my buddies dad. Hes willing to help me out with the install and then i gonna have someone possibly tow my car to the dealer. So basically i just gotta wait to see when they both have free time to help me out and go from there. I think the chevy dealer i went to is aware of the gm kit cause they new a good amount about it. I will just have to wait to see now, i cant wait to be boostin

I'll have the tank filled with 91 before doing the install. It's chock-full of 87 as of last night so this will be the last tank of that. I've got 2 weeks to use it up, which isn't a problem.

I don't understand how the reflash can be free but not include labour. There's nothing BUT labour involved. It's not like they're giving you some free piece of hardware or something. Hell, you don't even get a diskette or something you can take somewhere else to have it done. There's no other option than to have a GM dealer do it for you so if you're paying for that... then it's not free.

Haven't heard back from my dealer yet. I'll let you guys know how it goes.

SCC: Even if it does end up costing you for the reflash, that price is trivial compared to the price of the kit. That shouldn't be holding you back. I don't expect to pay more than a half hour labour for it if I have to pay at all.

You should have no issues with the actual install. I've read through the entire instruction manual and see nothing at all complicated.

Hey man dont feel bad about having to pay labor, im already nervous about sending my PCM across the border with no insurance heh... but it will so be worth it
