How to lower the boost.?
Sunday, April 03, 2005 5:07 PM

I have my turbo set at 12 psi with internal wastegate.

Is there a way to lower my boost to 6 psi for street and daily use and then set it back to 12 psi wherever i want..?

Any boost controller or something.

Unless you have a threaded wastegate rod, you really can't.

If it is thread you need to take it off the swingvalve arm and make it longer...most likely when you take the actuator rod off the swingvalve arm...it will pull back with tension...so you lengthen the arm and with force..put it back on the singvalve arm and drive and see...rinse repeat if needed to get to 6 PSI

I'm not a fan of that method - leaving the flapper open like that.

You COULD just get a boost controller and a lower PSI wastegate....

If its already been set at 12 PSI ...hopefully it wont leave the flapper open....but if thats the wastegates minimum PSI set (which i highly doubt it) then it would...and i suggest not doing it also....

Its the other way around. A boost controller can only raise the pressure of the wastegate, not lower it. It can make the vacuum port see less pressure, but not more. More pressure would be needed to lower the PSI, less pressure will raise the PSI.

wastegate has a psi minumum, you can raise with a controller not lower it. this is why i never recommend internal wastegates if you have a street car.

once again schooled by the org. so I guess companys that sell internal gated systms for a kit normaly sell one with lower boost.

yup. companies don't want you buying their base turbo kit for your stock bottom end, upping the boost too much, them blaming them and their kit because you overboosted, leaned out, and fried your bottom end.
