please help me make this decision!

hey guys,

motor is going in the car in about two weeks.... its in the machine shop as we speak. this is my problem i am having a hard time deciding on. i dont know wether to buy a wideband setup first, or a greddy e-manage??? i know it is best to have both with the new software that came out for the e-manage, but i can only afford one for about another two months. i am thinkin i might just go with the wideband so i can tell if it is runnin lean.. if it is runnin lean enough to hurt something, i will just park it until i have the money for a e-manage. now i was looking at e-manage's on ebay and i was finding some for like 300 bucks, but i put a post up the other day and someone was saying that they run about 800? maybe i am just looking at the basic unit, he was saying something about a cable hookup u have to buy but i thought the kit i was looking at on ebay came with all hardware needed. i just went on ebay and typed in "greddy e-manage" let me know if it is gunna cost like 800 bucks cause if so, i will most definately be going with just the wideband for now. i was just debating on the subject cause if the e-manage that i found on ebay will work, its about the same price that i can get a wideband for yano.. please let me know what u guys think..thanks.

Did you know the E-manage supports a wideband sensor input with just a software upgrade? $75 sensor + E-Manage = Full wideband tuning system.

Buy stuff from CarCustoms Ebay! Won't be disappointed!

Not quite. Hardware modifications (on the emanage board) are necessary.

check the emanage yahoo group for further hardware information

so those kits on ebay, will they work with our j's? i know it says to talk to greddy to make sure your application doesnt require any different plugs. so if i buy that kit, then just buy the 75 dollar wideband sensor i will have the same thing as if i bought the wideband separately with the e-manage? what does the software upgrage cost? i just am really getting limited with my money and i have to do this right cause i have so much money in this motor. how bad is it to wire this e-manage into our j's? if u could bud, let me know about how much u think i will be spending to get everything that i need for the e-manage setup...remember, i will prolly buy my e-manage on ebay so thats about 280 bucks there.. thanks for all ur help Shifted...u have been answering all my tuner questions.... i havent had much experience yet with tuning forced induction applications. thanks again.

The wideband sensor will not work without a wideband driver. That's why you buy the whole setup (controller, cables, sensor). The sensor alone does nothing for you.

With the updated hardware/software (gold e-manage), you can use a linear wideband output from the wideband controller as an input on the e-manage and have it autotune to a target a/f ratio (or just use it for monitoring/datalogging).

I'm assuming you're going to be running boost on this new motor, so at a minimum, you're going to need:

1. E-Manage main unit - $289
2. Greddy Support tool - $115 (or $50 for a clone cable and download the software)
3. Injector harness - $32
4. pressure sensor + harness - $128

Total - $564
All prices quoted from Mohd Parts

hey jayp2k i am working on getting my blue emanage to gold, i have all the wires hooked up for the wideband into the emanage, have you successfully used the auto tune feature on a blue emanage?

I have not done it.

If you go to the emanage yahoo group, you will find threads on it, along with photos and what's different, hardware-wise, between the blue and gold. You will have to crack the case and hack the motherboard to use the features of the gold in the blue. At least according to these folks.

I don't have a wideband lol

I have the PLX M300 wideband and the greddy emanage. There was a software update that rolled through here not to long ago that uses the second air flow meter input on the blue emanage for a wide band input. This can be done without hardware modifications. I did it on mine and I love it. It makes tuning so much easier. You can monitor your air fuel ratio and data log it and review it to make changes where needed.

The auto tune feature uses the airflow adjustment map to make the changes for desired A/F ratio. You will have to spend some time with the additional injection map to get the A/F ratio some what close and then use the auto tune for fine tuning.

You need a complete wideband o2 sensor system with a wideband output signal. Such as the PLX equipment, which I recomend.

Here is some info I posted a excel spread sheet with some of my data using this wideband software. in this thread. Enjoy!

Yep, Jamie is speaking of the Emanage Alpha Tools, which can be found in the files section of the Yahoo Emanage group.
