do you mean the twin-charged cobalt SS being built? isnt that 2.0L? besides, thats just like adding a turbocharger. im talking about supercharging and turbocharging a car that was originally N.A., like a sunfire

From CobaltSS Forums:
Quote:

For 2005, Gravana will build the ultimate “Twin-Charged” Cobalt SS Coupe. The stock Chevrolet Cobalt SS Coupe comes from the factory with an Intercooled Supercharger that produces 205HP. Gravana will add a Turbocharger ON TOP OF the factory Supercharger, to increase the power to approximately 300HP. In addition to building this monstrous power plant, Gravana will focus on expanding its line of products for the Cobalt, including a vented hood, Teske Design series body kit and several performance products for the standard SS Coupe. Gravana will again rely on companies such as Recaro, Boston Acoustics, Motegi, H&R and Goodyear for marketing partnerships on this project.

They are going to use the stock roots s/c, and also a turbo.

they're just adding a turbo to the car like you would to yours...except their's is already supercharged. you can use a bigger turbo than normal because the supercharger will take car of the low end boost. then the turbo spools up and takes care of the top end. plus i'll bet it sounds awesome with the spooled turbo and the whine of the supercharger in unison

that will be an amzing vehicle. think about if you have a car done up you may have not to good low end power or not to good high end but this has both that are good. and the turbo will spool nice wit the supercharger. i think that will put out such a good power curve. thats a good dream man, i think soon that might get popular if it is successful. take a low end priced car do both and you could have a much faster car then some of the expensive crap so why not.

just 1 question, WHY?

useless IMO. I've build a turbo setup for my 2.3 and with the right turbo, you can have boost really low. I have boost at 1500rpm so what's the point of having an Sc and a turbo.

another thing is heat. you have hotter air because of the turbo even if it's not in boost. witch mean with the turbo, you'll loose soem Hp from the blower. Another thing is the turbo will make more heat under boost so you would need an intercooler before the Sc and the air will still be hotter than normal air so you'll loose some power of the Sc.

another thing is that the Sc take alot of Hp from the engine so it's plain useless to have it if you have the turbo.

You have to think that your turbo will cause some backpressure so the power gain from the Sc will be lower again.

It's just for show because it's plain useless. It make the people taht don't know F/I think it's cool but in reality, it's plain stupid.

I was on the edge a little bit

A damn crook said that he "found" a way to get better gas mileage. but in reality, he just copy the tornado piece. So now he went on tv twice and people all over Quebec believe in that POS so I'm kinda on the edge seeing that a damn crook like that can fool so many people. Everybody believe it's like a miracle so I'm pissed. It's going to be like a F&F wave. everybody will buy one and believe that he got better gas mileage and that his car is more powerful.

I just can't believe it.

As for the thread, it's for show, at least I hope. I would put my company name on something useless as that. Granted some dumb people will buy it but I wouldn't have the balls to do it.

i dont think the 2.0 will blow up at 300hp lol

Re: Twin-charging the Ecotec

If they do that, i would certainly hope that they put better rods and pistons in there than stock. Im sure that with the 2.0 though it being destroked and all probably has much better internals than the ones that came in the j's..

i had this idea a couple months ago and i talked it over with a mechanic friend of mine. you can't use a root sc with a turbo because no matter how much air the turbo can compress it will only make through the engine as fast as the sc can force it. What you have to do is use a centrifugal sc and a turbo then it will work. This is what we discussed if anyone can prove me/him wrong please let me know cause i prefer roots over centrifugal. also i can't remember what the term is but there is a term for a sc and tc setup. anyone know what it is

Forgot the point to that, although roots is better for low RPM, i LOVE the sound of the centrifugal, and as long as your above 3krpms (at least on the Cobra) you have full boost. But then again, how often are you below 3krpms if your running it?

Well the 2.0L Ecotec S/C has forged internals already, so I am assuming there will be no need to upgrade them....

Actually nissan made a "super turbo" nissan march in the late 80's early 90's. It was used for japanese K racing and pwn3d everything. In the end they ended up banning the car. It made 200 hp off a 1.4 or 1.5 liter, can't remember. LOL

SCC twin-charged an MR2 with a V6 swapped in... they got some pretty badass results, but i think that twin charging is really just one of those things thats done simply because it can be done. If it was really all the viable of a performance option, there'd be tons of race teams doing it.

ehhhh i dunno how well they would like double induction. they will probably want to run a little lower compression and i hope the rods are good.
