We did not have to cut off the entire hardpipe. But yes, I am using heater hose to take the place of the hardpipe that was cut off.

There is some pretty sweet setups here for the 2.2/2200. I like that setup Luc, but ow much clearecne do you have for the radiator and fans, also are you retaining the a/c?

LowFire : Well, its based on their design, but with a couple of improvements and its now equal lenght and no 90 degreed bend.
HotRodV6 : No A/C on my car, but I can see that the downpipe would be in the way, not the manifold. For the clearance to the radiator and fans, well I am changing both the radiator(now 2 3/4" thick core) and fans (now 2 fans, but they are less thick than the OEM) , but they are not installed yet, but from what we can see, clearance will be of about 5-6 inches.

Yeah thats going to be a major excercise for my setup, is getting around the a/c compressor, as i dont want to remove it from the car. I rarely ever use it, unless the wife is in the car with me, but sometimes its just to dam hot in Houston to not run it.
Im only running a 2.5 downpipe so i think i can get everything to fit. Just take time and patience.
What Radiaotor are you running?
And i wil also be ditching the stock fans in favor if much thinner aftermarket dual fans.

Yeah i know, mine went out at the end of summer of 03 and i waited unitl around this tike last year to fix it, bout a new compressor and oriface tube and accumulaotr off ebay and repalced everything myself, then took it to firestone and had it charged back up. So im going to try and keep it working. I also have my old compressor i can bolt up and use it to mock up the downpipe clearance.
