I have a Saab 9-3 with one on it stock. It sounds like air shooting out of a hose attached to an air compressor. Nothing fancy.

The RFL is about the loudest thing you can get. I can't stand the annoying sounds that piece of crap puts out. I prefer my valve from Forge Motorsport, but it's expensive. Just my opinion.

Forge all the way. I'm running a Forge unit on the 1.8t. They make NICE stuff.

Use a Evo 8 BOV if you want something quiet while normal driving and loud for racing. Plus that thing moves a lot of air fast. I love mine.

Hells yeah... got a Forge on the Beetle, it makes enough sound to give you the satisfaction of that "vroooooom PSH" sound effect, but isn't ridiculous and annoying like some of those New Years party noisemakers some people put on their cars.

The bosch units are ok, but you have to be careful with what you get. I'm not sure which model number the SAAB uses, but the 1.8T's stock DV (we call it a diverter valve in VW land) has a tendency to leak at higher pressure levels. The 710N model I used for a long time and had no issues with at 20+ psi.

im only gonna be running 7-10psi for awhile until next winter when i do a full engine build and bigger turbo.
when i do that then ill upgrade everything. right now its just gonna be a full reliable setup, only looking for 230-240whp

TurboXS also makes just a plain Type H (not RFL), it's slightly cheaper and less loud. That's the one I just bought - just some food for thought.

I was always under the impression that the Saab turbo had a bypass valve on it. I know that a couple of the guys on the board are just using that on their kit and it works nicely.

For 7-10 PSI you could definitley run a stock Bosch unit off a 1.8t. It's not going to be very loud, but then again you can pick one up for 30 bucks. So if you decide to upgrade later, not much lost.

If you're using the Saab turbo you don't need a BOV, the compressor housing has one built in. It sounds pretty sweet too.

i went with a higher output tdo4H than the oem saab turbo. this setup is damn close to the saab setup, but not the exact setup

Is that turbo a direct bolt on to the 03+ Saab 93 manifold that most people are using? If so, do you have compressor and turbine maps to compare the turbo you are using to the TDO4 that most others are using with this set up?

The stock 03+ Saab 93 uses a Mitsubishi TDO4 turbo that has a blow off valve built directly into the casting of the compressor housing. It functions just like any other blow off valve only is is built into the turbo rather than being a separate peice located on the charge pipes. If you search i'm sure you can find pics.

His setup is not the saab setup, but is like a replica of the kit using aftermarket pieces. It is just about the same turbo as the Mitsubishi as it should gain close to if not a little more than the stock TDO4L-14T.

As for the BOV in the Saab turbo, this is the best picture I have on mine right now. All my pictures got deleted so this is all I can do for you right now....

It is that circular piece under the compressor outlet.

skilz- i dont have any maps on it, but i know i have the TD04HL-15T and the saab runs the TD04L-14T. it will not fit on the oem saab manifold i dont believe as it is a t25/t28 flange
