Slave Cylinder leak or Clutch wornout
Tuesday, March 01, 2005 2:39 PM
I got about 44,741 miles on my 2002 Cavalier Ls sport and on Saturday I pressed on the freaking clutch pedal and there was no pressure to it, so the next day I added clutch fluid in there and it was back to normal, then I decided to take it to the dealership on Monday and told them what happened and they didn't check on my car till today and I got some bad news...........They said that they needed to take it to a transmission specialist to have the transmission taken apart ($286)in order to tell what the problem is for sure. Then they said that if it is the Slave Cylinder in the Bell-Housing is leaking my extended warranty will cover it................but if it is my clutch wornout, the warranty will not cover it, which I understand.........Then I asked how much it is to replace the clutch, THEN HE SAID $1400 DOLLARS to replace the clutch.......Now, I'm pretty sure that I'm getting raped by GM.........They said it is a 7 hour job $85per/hr .....$300dollars for the new clutch, which equals to $895 plus $286 to take the transmission apart, total $1181 and an additional $219 dollars for what I think is to bleed the clutch and tax......Regardless, I letted them take it to a transmission specialist to take a look at it, I still have to pay $286 for that, if the slave clyinder isn't leaking.........What do you guys think, am I just being bent over and $#@%ed??????????? There goes my Suspension Money I was going to get...

Pull the tranny yourself. It's not too hard. Not sure if you have the means to do it though. That is much. You'd be better off going to a tranny shop and let them do the work. But if you have the warranty then you're kinda stuck. Ask them about pulling it out and taking it to GM and see if they will still honor the warranty work.

Check and see if fluid is leaking ou the bottom of the tranny. If it is then it is the Slave Cylinder/Throw-out bearing. I have replaced 2 master cylinders and also I replaced the clutch & Slave Cylinder/Throw-out bearing on my 03 with 40K on it. GM wants 350 for a new throw out bearing and you can get a Spec Clutch Stage 2 for 350 with the Slave Cylinder/Throw-out bearing. And it is a pretty easy job if you know what your doing.

geez, i had a tranny shop replace my clutch and turn my flywheel for $400. that's definately a rippoff, unless they're installing an all out racing clutch for you.

www.gripforce.com

i got my clutch kit from them for $206 and free shipping. got to me in 3 days. my dad and i changed my clutch today and it took us 7 hours. it SHOULD NOT take a certified technician 7 hours to change it if they have all the proper tools, which they probably do.

let me know if you have any questions about replacing the clutch. i believe, though, that your slave cylinder is fine and you probably just need to bleed your clutch. it doesnt take but 15 minutes at the most.

Peace Out!!!
