Im finding out that cavaliers are built like all the other american crap. I have been driving tuner cars for years and never have I seen the gears just give in like this.

Just buy a rebuilt transmission, you can get one pretty easily for under $500.

Oh, and welcome to the Isuzu transmission, same thing happened on mine.

I am having the hardest problem with keeping my trany too, I am on my 3rd trany and now i am just thinking about replacing my 2.2 with a 2.4 with the gentec(or what ever it is called) trany so i don't have as many problems with it. I heard it is set up for like 300hp. so i hope it will work for me, and hopefully i will quit destroying tranys.

Or a Honda. They're always bitching over at Club Si about weak diffs and axles.

I agree, get a used tranny. The samething happened to mine. It would have been about 650 to rebuild, so i bought a used tranny for 450.

Nissan also uses the Getrag transmission (6 speed) in the skyline.

My guess is that its more a case of cheaper parts in a good tranny.

I thought the G35 from infinity was the "new" Skyline... Man... Skylines.... now that's the stuff dreams are made of.

my spider gears went too it was $1200 bucks to rebuild the differential. I started getting the metal shavings on my vss about 2 years before it went. I did about 15 good hand brake burnouts the month before it went. I was suprised it held up as long as it did.

Not to hijack the thread, but the last I read about a Skyline, was in an old car mag at work. We typically have magazines there like 3-4 years old, and I read a comparison of a Skyline vs. and NSX.

So I'd say as of like 3 years ago +/-, yes lol. Today, I'm unsure......

gm dealer will sell you a complete remanufactured transmission that meets OEM quality standards for $1,774. Most tranny shops will try to charge you a little more than that to rebuild your tranny. the reason they dont suggest replacing the whole thing is because the shop makes so much more money in labor. I know someone who paid $1900 in repairs to his '02 getrag when he could've gotten an entire transmission with all new parts for about the same cost once you include labor. The guy called the tranny shop and asked why they didnt replace the whole thing and they said the dealer doesnt sell a complete transmission, just parts and assemblies. I called the parts counter at the dealership myself and they told me that the $1,774 was for a complete tranny, bell housing and all. watch out for tranny shops, they are interested in making as much as they can in labor even though you would be paying the same price either way.

not to side track the topic again, but about the skylines, they are US bound but in the form of the Infinity G platform. It is expected to be called the G35 GTR in the US (what else would they call it? ) but thats not a deffinite yet so dont quote me on it.

put in a nvg t550 transmission. you should be able to get a nice one for $400 or less. you'll never have to worry about the tranny breaking again...unless you're pushing some serious power, well over 300whp.
