I'm having one really big brain fart today... The 97 pontiac sunfire with the 2.2L auto came with the 3 speed 3T40?? Right? all of these 3T's, 4T's, 40's, and E's are messin with my head right now...

Some had the 3 speed, some had the 4... if your shifter says PRND21 then you have the 3 speed 3T40E, if it has PRND321 then you have the 4T40E.

Sorry, before I get castrated, there is no E at the end of the 3T40

3 is the amount of gears
T indicates transaxle
30 indicates torque capacity
E indicates electronic

I believe there is a 4t40e and the 3t30.

Ok thats what i thought... Never knew that the 97 2.2 came with a 4 speed auto.. Thought it was only on the 2.4..

No it's because, I got the torque rating wrong. More power to the 3 speeds
