I need some transmission info
Friday, May 13, 2005 4:21 PM
Hey All, I bought a salvage transmission, and the guy forgot to ship the bolts with it. Can someone please tell me what size the bolts are for a 96-98 5 spd manual transmission??? Any help will be appreciated.

Just the bolts to connect it to the block...there are 6 of them. I bought the car without the motor or tranny, So it sucks I can't just look at the other one.....

There are 6 main bolts and 2 smaller ones which connect to brackets. The brackets tie the trans to the right side (pass. side) of the engine.

I just did my trans and made notes on the bolts and where they go. I did not note what thread they were, but I am sure they were M10x1.5.
Starting at the front bottom of the engine by the rad. and working over the top toward the firewall, the second to 5th bolts are studs with 18mm nuts placed mid way. The outer thread is smaller and holds a 15mm nut. The length is 45mm. Don't put the wrong bolt in by the starter, you'll put a hole through the casing if it is too long.

Bolt# - Description

1- this 13mm (or 15mm??) hex bolt goes into a bracket which comes around to the drivers side of the trans and extends across the engine connecting; up near the front of the starter and, on the front engine mount
2 - 18mm hex stud - outer nut holds on wire loom bracket by starter
3 - 18mm hex stud - outer nut holds 2 grounds
4- 18mm hex stud - outer nut holds 1 ground (top front of engine)
5- 18mm hex stud - outer nut holds wire loom and heater pipe bracket (top rear of engine)
6- 18mm hex head bolt
7- 18mm hex head bolt
8- this 13mm hex bolt ties into a bracket on the flywheel cover which connects near the front of the engine

Hope this helps.

Yeah that is really helpful. Are the bolts the same on both the 2.2 trannys and 2.4 trannys?

I don't know. I have only the 2.2 L (the z in the moniker is for a camaro z28 I own). Thanks for the message - I appreciate hearing back.
