I didn't cut my subframe when I took my tranny out, I just used a hammer to bash in the corner, and haven't had any problems since then.

I cut the subframe over the weekend when I dropped my trans out and replaced it......... I went a little over board, but it made it ALOT easier.

PJ, you ever open up your other trans? I opened mine....... busted the plastic tips off of the 3/4 shift fork, and one on the 1/2 shift fork (it was almost off) I might have to look into having some bronze tips made to replace these crap plastic ones.

this is what was done 2 years ago when my clutch was replaced, and the same thing will be done next week when I swap the spider gears in my Isuzu, none of this cutting b/s

but i've heard speculation that the reason I lost first and second was for the same reason

I'll find out when i finally do get around to dissecting it

Ok guys I am new to the j body. I think that I just blew up my tranny and it looks like I will be replacing it very soon. Now can anyone explain to me how to do this procedure. I just need to know specifics. Like what bolts to take out and how to re-align the clutch and how to install one. How long should it take and what tools are required besides basic hand tools and a jack.

yeah me too, about 12 fricking times. never even thought about cutting or losening the subframe.
these guys are acting like gm built the car around the motor and trans so we cant get it out as a prank.
if you jack the motor up a little the damn tranny will almost jump out. takes me about an hour and half
from the time i lift the car till i let it down. but thats on a z, eco might be diff. dunno

I wonder what GM's point was to having that short angle on the subframe? Maybe it acts like a guide when dropping it in from the top during installation?

..Weird Short of believing that it's all just some sick joke, I would like to know what purpose that short angle serves?

you only need to cut the inner ear

also use of a cherry picker to hold the motor and allow some rotation helps out alot also

Ditto on last post. I've pulled this frickin' Isuzu tranny out of my 99 LD9 twice. First time, I used the chassis brace from above...SUCKED! 2nd time I used a cherry picker. Much easier. No cutting though...but I did remove the subframe both times. Neither time did I need another alignment (checked both times though, just in case). I'll try this cutting idea next time....for the Isuzu it will be a fatal time. Getrag, here I come!

I wish I could take my tranny out that quick. I either have to drop the whole subframe or pull the engine and tranny out from the top, I don't have much choice unfortunatly.
