Autotrans and B&M redesign...plus some questions
Wednesday, August 08, 2007 4:49 AM
I am looking for a past forum post regarding reverse engineering of the autotrans. I CAN not find it anywhere. I searched...and searched, and can not find it. Anyone remeber reading it...or could track it down would be GREAT! I had it booked mark, but I must have deleted it.

To make a very long story short, I have a autotrans unit & a B&M unit.... I'm going to try and make a combo of sorts. An electrical engineer and I are in the process of reverse engineering them. I am having a hell of a time figuring out what Packard Electric "Delphi" connectors they used. Also we believe the auto trans can be made better and easier. We are combining the two. Autotrans adjust ability with the nice on-off feature of the B&M from inside the cabin. Our main problem are these damn connectors. ~~Shakes Fists~~ I was keeping this quite until I had a working prototype, but I'm running out of information....and patience.

Any information you have on the B&M or Autotrans would be great. This unit will be sealed and or potted, unlike the autotrans unit.

Thanks
-Mike-

My Autotrans Interceptor has done nothing but piss me off, so if you need an additional reference unit, let me know. It wouldn't be free, but it can definitely can go for less than the $80 or so that I paid.

yeah this was going to be a school project of mine.

i dropped it though and opted out for speaker design and building for my final project.

i will find any and all info i can to help you guys.

unfortunatly i never got very far with it due to school and the talks with my boss of getting HP Tuners instead.

i'll see what i can do,

this is where i got the diagram for the 20-pin delphi connector

20-pin

unfortunatly the link is dead, but it was lenko that supplied the link. it is possible he still has it.

this is about as far as i got with doing it

auto trans ripped apart

thats about as much help as i can be.

i believe the 20-pin diagram i had saved was on my other USB key, which was left in a computer and stolen. that would make number 2 ive lost.... but thats how it goes.

i'll lend help with what ever i can.

as far as i could remember i figured out where the pot that adjusts line pressure should go, and i think even the TCC delay, but i never fabricated anything because i could get my hands on an auto trans to make any measurements.

let me know if you need a hand.

Thank you once again shifted, and giving credit where credit is due.

Now look what i got bored and found....

Someone else might be able to either confirm or deny that this is the right one but if so it seems to be the male end of the connector, now to find the female.

sorry if i am wasting post here but could this be the matching female connector?

Good luck buying them from Delphi, they only sell in industrial quantities (10,000+ minimum orders). You might be able to find the connectors on mouser.com at smaller quantities.

Yeah i forgot about that shifted, but i did find them on the mouser website.

Now again if these are the right ones:
12160782 listed at around 5 a piece in single
12160781 listed at around 2 a piece in single
But it does get cheaper in bulk.

i already have the shift plus but i want to control the TCC. but i wonder how it would be done, would it have to be a control box mounted in the cabin with the junction box under the hood with a connector so the line could be split to make it easier to pass through the firewall or what? i am here to help if its needed.

I think they are the right series, but not the correct connectors.

It is in this series damn it.

i wonder if it would be possible to tap into the TFT (transmission fluid temperature) wire for a gauge and have it work???

Brad yes you can, but you need to make sure the voltage scales match. Also it is REALLY easy to mount a sending unit into the front of the trans...by the coolant lines.

does anybody have the measurement values of level 1 or level 2 vs. off or autotrans at 0% vs. 100% and the differece in the TCC delay values. i might be able to pull the vaues of the B&M this weekend and post them up, just depends on if i can get the time.

are u looking for the male, or the female ends?

i dont see why you couldnt rip a couple sets ouf of some 4t40e cars at a junk yard???

the plug that plugs INTO the tranny plug and the tranny plug itself, wouldnt that work?

I have an Autotrans for the 4T65 or 60 (not sure which) out back along with one for the 4T40E as well which I need to find.

Mike, if you need them contact me, I am sure we can work something out.

Thanks
