good deal, i talked to my machinest today about it and he said we could get something figured out, and ive seen some new g6 trans on ebay pretty cheap, just been curious if the deminsions are the same for the final drive, not really worried about the bolt pattern to the diff.

i rather have the lower f40 fdr, but if the f35 bolt pattern is the same so could do a direct swap ill go that route for now, but would still like to get the f40 fdr.

so who knows the math or round about speed you would get with the f23 f35 and f40 in 4th at 7, 7.5, and 8k rpm??

If you swap the ring gear on the diff carrier you still need to swap the gear in the tranny that connects to the ring gear. The total number of teeth between the ring gear and the gear in the tranny need to be equal to the original setup, and that number of teeth might be different on the setup you're getting from the f40. That's kind of a crappy explination.

that seems like it should fit a little better and possibly be swapable. even though 3.94 would be even better. but any taller is better than nothing.

3.94 is the stock ratio. Lower the ratio the higher mph you will see.

yeah i meant the 3.55. i looked at the wrong chart above.

3.55,3.63,3.94.... 3.63 feels like middle ground to me. so its kind of a decent compromise. Do you need an empty F23 case? I have 1 empty and a complete one as well.

Re: F23 & F40 thoughts

I'm happy with the 3.63 fdr since I don't see why its not direct swap, everything is the same other than the fdr. Should have a trans ordered when I get a call back. I have 3 transmissions so I think I have that's undercontrol

yeah id say 0.80 is a better option than the 0.31 difference of the two.

are you talking to separate it and just swap the FDR? or just get the right bell housing on it and bolt it up as it is? Are the rest of their gears better to expand the mph per gear or is it JUST the FDR thats different?

Re: F23 & F40 thoughts

only thing different is the fdr, im going to pull both trans apart and use the better stuff of the 2. then i might send it all to be heat treated before putting it all together.

I just know talking to the shops I took my one trans to, that its impossible to find parts for these things and when you do its retardedly expensive.

Any idea what you are going to do for the shift fork tips? Anything that can be done?

I am definitely interested though.

I had a thought on the shift fork tips...

What about brazing bronze onto the area that the nylon normally covers? If you do it right, you should be able to build up enough material then chuck that baby in a mill and mill it to tolerance and lubrication retention Ra.

For really bulletproof forks I'd say TIG more material on and then mill it... but then you would be wearing the snychronizers rather than the forks... and those be expensive...At least the bronze is replaceable.. could in theory make a shift fork that been reinforced last forever and be rebuild-able...

If you were cool you'ed mill forks out of billet and have pads that were held on with machine screws.
