Last night on the way home from a friends house me and my bro pulled over for a pee break. when we got back in the car i went to put it into gear and it was like it didnt catch and slid all the way back to the 1st position. i pushed it forward and it fell into what normaly would be drive but still nothing. i slammed the shifter back and it locked into 3rd gear i pushed it forward and then it locked into drive i barely pulled back on the stick and it fell out of the lock position but it didnt change the gear. to put it in park i have to slam it hard all the way forward and it locks it. i have to move it back and forth a few times before it locks into reverse. please help WTF it was fine and then i parked and it just went nuts. oh yeah its a 99 ls 4dr 2.4, 4 speed auto.

Checked both ends and it is connected. when you pull it all the way back it goes into 3rd when u push it forward it sometimes catches drive and sometimes neutral but when it locks into the park location its in reverse.
