why would you put in a insert if you shattered a spider gear? obviously the traction was good and the gear not worn. so why put a weak link back in. i would of saved the insert money and bought a complete lsd differential or welded the gears. just my thought.

The key to keeping the diff from destroying itself, is to apply equal power to both wheels. More often then not, the spider blows from one wheel spinning, and the resulting wheel hop.

I've run a diff with welded spider gears, while it lasted fine on the drag strip, the turning at the end of the track, and moving around the pits, destroyed axles, and in the end, the trans itself.

The best option is the true LSD, but in many cases, the problem is money. Quaife = Expensive. OBX = In many cases, more work, and although there is an 'expressed' warrenty, many have found that there is no warrenty. Inserts = inexpensive, in most cases can be installed at home, and they work.

I do understand what you are saying. Just that it doesn't match with what is shown in the pic. I see two busted spider gears not one. Nor do the parts have excessive where on the teeth. To me it looked as he launched it and the gears shattered. Imo. But we will see what happens down the road.

Ps I know the insert helps traction which is why I will be looking in to them down the road.

from the pics, looks like it may have seen its fair share of burn outs..... see the gauling on the inner surface of the gears? All it takes is one wheel to hop, catch grip befor the other, and POP! When you see gears break do to power/traction, you usually see the teeth mashed. When they explode, its usually from high speed spinning and hop.

I wasnt in this car when it blew, but in my experiance, thats what I've seen when I've opened the case.
