5 speed final drive question

OK, first off, it's my first post so go easy on me if this has been asked before.
I'm ditching the 2.2 in my 97 cavalier for a 3.4 with a 138,000 miles on it along with wiring harness and computer and a few other odds and ends to make it work.
I was wondering if the final drive gear ratio of 3.58 could be changed for something like a 3.08 or higher/lower gear ratio I want a high top end speed.

Thanks

If you have a 5 speed, it would be an Isuzu, and while there are gear ratio options, the trans sucks. If you have an auto, you're stuck with what you have.

If it was me, I'd do a F23 Getrag swap while doing the engine swap. Better trans, still not the gear ratio you're after, but the best option.

my spreadsheet I built to figure out all the combos when I swapped in the Storm GSi complete gearset shows that a Cav with stock tire diameter and a stock 3.58FDR turning 6000 rpm will be going 167 mph.
That will take a lot of hp! About 365rwhp per http://www.wallaceracing.com/Calculate%20HP%20For%20Speed.php

From a Storm tranny, a 3.83 FDR would be going 140 (takes 220 rwhp), Storm GSi 4.117FDR would do 130 (takes 177 rwhp)

My guess is you could lower the FDR and not top out unless you were turbo'd or supercharged or had a big nitrous tank.

The 3.58 should work fine but 4th will tap out at 121 and 5th is really a big overdrive for gas mileage. You'll probably end up topping out about 135 with the rpms about 4800.

I'm leaning towards a turbo plus a 25Hp shot of nitrous.
I'm hoping to get about 285Hp out of it when it's on the NOS.
Weight has a lot to do with top end speed and I wanted to lighten it up a bit, OK a lot!
thanks for your input

LOL thanks for the link 485Hp to reach 205MPH that's not going to happen.
Then because of the gearing your engine would be screamming! B(
