F23 Pass side axle
Tuesday, February 07, 2012 7:19 PM

I am pretty sure this is a dumb question but I am gonna ask it anyways. On our F35 ( CObalt/ION) trans the pass axle has an intermediate connection so the axle is not so long. Does the F23 have this? I am pretty sure the nvg has a couple years with it. I know our 284 getrag had one.

It theoretically would reduce torque steer, and would do some nicer things while turning. The cobalt f23 has an intermediate shaft. Should just be able to take that whole thing off and swap the outer sections of our axles and be at least very close to done.

I need to check, but IRRC all the balts have them. Here is the bracket and it doesnt specify SS or redline, Your text to link here..., I see part numbers for ss and non ss that are different.

Thats for an F35 thou. Are you saying this would work for a F23 with minimal machining?

There are differnet part numbers for SS and non SS, ergo, there are different part numbers for F35 and F23.

Not all Cobalts have them. I have a couple of buddies with 2.2 Cobalts that have the unequal length axles.

Hmm, maybe I'm reading the parts wrong.

just an idea but does the getrag/muncie/isuzu shaft work in an F23?

no way that cobalt one is going to bolt to a quad family engine...

My project is gonna involve using a Quad 4 intermediate shaft on the Ecotec/Getrag transmission to allow for equal length driveaxles on both sides..As soon as I can get a properly sourced shaft from an older Z/GT ill flesh out the details.

I found a 96 sunfire GT with one ( jack shaft). I am gonna pull it and try installing it.

Cobalts with f23s do not have equal half shafts. Cobalts with f35s do!

Iirc Alex Richards had a thread on installing this setup on his turbo ln2 a little while back. It had pics too. I'd link it but I'm on my cell now.

Yes the isuzu shafts will work in an f23, I have a pass side intermediate shaft on my 01 z. It took a little machining but it even bolts to the ld9 block. I had to lathe the axle back a bit to get the bearing support in the right spot and grind on the mounting boss that bolts to the motor.

Works awesome with the TG lsd and no power steering. Never had torque steer problems just traction under boost. lol

HAHA I don't care really. Should be easy on an LD( because the 2.3 in the 95s is the same if not very similar.
