Trans. fluid for my 2002 ecotec cavalier 5 speed
Tuesday, February 15, 2011 8:18 PM
Hi guys, just had a quick question.
I have a 2002 chevy cavalier ecotec 5 speed, it had 115k miles, I want to do a transmission flush and put new transmission fluid. I was thinking of putting some valvoline ATF DEXRON-VI FULLY SYNTHETIC. I read about it and it says it is for GM vehicles and work for those that use ATF DEXRON-III and it is also GM approved to their standards. This is the code for the fluid J-60151. Just want to get some advices and if someone has used it before, thank you.

To clairify my previous statement: ATF = Automatic Transmission Fluid.
Don't our 5 speeds use Syncromesh?
Unless you have the Getrag which will for some strange reason LOVE ATF

Sorry "Road to change" but the syncromesh is for the models up to the 1999 from what I can remember, mine uses ATF and yes I am 100% sure about that because it is in the manual, also the Hayness manual and other posts here say the getrag uses ATF. I just want to know if the anyone used the VALVOLINE ATF DEXRON VI.

Hence why I said this. I was not sure whether your car was a stock 5 speed or manual swapped because you really don't tell us much about it in your profile. No need to be rude.

99% of the newer manual trans's take ATF. I use synchromesh in mine with no issues but to each their own.

2 quarts is right unless you get the Getrag rattle..then go for 2.6 quarts.
