Wednesday, March 02, 2005 10:53 AM
Ok. Im doing a 3800 swap and need a flywheel. Im using a getrag 5 speed. I know its been done so somone has info. I was wondering if a flywheel from a 3800 camaro might fit. I want to use my spec stage 3 clutch, so will my pressure plate bolt to the flywheel. If not where can i get a flywheel for my car and will my stock starter work also. Anyone who can help me out this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I thought those who did the swap had to use a tranny from a 2.2 to work on the 3800

It is a tranny from a 2200 which is a 2.2. There was 2 bolt patterns for the izuzus and the getrags. One for a 2.2 and one for a 2.4. Mine is from a 2.2 and i have the 2.2. izuzu tranny from my car that im not using. Anyways does anyone have any ideas? Lata

Ask the Raven. He has the answers. He's done this already, and I'm following his lead also.

2.2 - 3.4 - 3.8 Same Flywheel Housing Bolt Pattern, but not the same Flywheel 2 Crank Bolt Pattern. Get a flywheel from a '99 Camaro/Firebird with the 3.8 and have the Pressure Plate Height modified to match the original Flywheel Height.

Camaro flywheel must be machined down to fit, otherwise get a custom on made.

Get a custom aluminum flywheel, you can get it from Race Tech in toronto. The other option is to get a flywheel from an old camar/firebird and have it machined down.

Sorry to revive an old post but I'm looking for clarification on using a 99 Camaro's flywheel for my swap. I'm using a 2001 transmission from a 2.2, the motor is a 2000 Grand prix 3800SC. If I use a Camaro's Flywheel I have to machine it down to the exact thickness of 2001 2.2's flywheel. And most importantly will the 2.2 starter work with the camaro's flywheel? If not what has to be done?

You use the starter from the 3800 s/c engine.
You machine the flywheel down to the thickness of the 2.2 flywheel (preferrably not the minimum thickness)

What he said. Or you can just get ahold of Joe at Rachtech and get a 9.5lbs aluminum flywheel.

OK..............I searched jbody.org, the internet , called GM parts department, Called GM's Engineering Department(Idiots). I can't find the stock thickness of a 2001 2.2 Flywheel.

And BTW Raven I plan to get the flywheel from Racetech especially considering there's no shipping costs as they are only 45 minutes away from me but not till next spring, I want to get the car up and running before winter.
