The only problem with automatic transmissions is in STOCK form it will transfer less power to the wheels than a manual transmission but your motor still has the same amount of power as you would if had a manual. The fix for autos is to pretty much get a bigger torque converter to match the amount of power you have and driveability you want...I have yet to do this, I'll probably be doing boost before I do this though.

by getting a larger torque converter, would the tranny be able to take more power??? i read somewhere here the tranny max handling power is around 300.. would that allow for more??? =D =D or any ideas????

I gotta say its about time that happened, great job, NEWBS PAY ATTENTION!!!
But yeah, auto and boost does have some benefits like not losing as much boost between gears

not losing as much. you dont lose any boost when an auto shifts. i ran 10 psi and stayed right on 10psi through shifts and all.
auto tranny is alot more consistent than a manual cuz its doesnt miss shifts and shifts fast.
a built or tuned auto tranny will also cut out power lose and be more reliable

Yeah...you don't lose any boost at all between gears because you don't have to lift off the throttle to shift.

my suggestion, figure out exactly what you are doing with the motor first, firuge out if you are running street tires, dot or full slick, and get a converter based on that

if you can't find a regular company that makes one, I think precision industries will make them to order. and there are some places out there that make custome converters from scratch that can help you

i dont wanna drop in a new tc. if i pull (blow up) my auto id rather stick a 5speed in. im just wondering if i build up my valvetrain for high revving if the stock one can handle it. cuz no1can see the kid in the automatic cavalier beating ANYONE
