No go mystery.

I think I need Columbo on this one. I just bought a 1995 Cavalier with a 2.2 and auto trans. Mom gave the car to son and he trashed and thrashed it and then it wouldn't move any more. "I didn't do anything to it" Well, Stepdad changed the trans fluid and screen which got rid of any evidence that I would normally look for and the car still doesn't move. The shifter works like it should and the car starts in park and neutral but not in gear, so I think any external linkage problem is out. Does anybody have any ideas for me to try before I get a "new" trans from the junk yard?

Jack up the whole front of the car, spin one tire, if the other doesn't spin, busted diff from a neutral drop

I jacked it up and spun one wheel and the other spun as well. Any other ideas?
