Ive dropped 5 speeds before, but this is my first auto j. how much of a pain is it to drop the trans and leave the motor?

I wouldn't even try. Do you plane to take it out the top or bottom?

That would be a lot of work. You would have to remove the whole suspension on the drivers side and subframe. It becomes a mess. Unless your doing at a junkyard where you are pulling it yourself and cutting the car apart in the process. I would just pull the engine and tranny. It is much easier.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

With s lift and the proper tools, can be removed an re-installed in a day.

Just pull subframe, roll out of the way . Its 5 bolts then its wide open for tranny to come out in/bottom.

I think it is easier to pull out the top with motor and trans still together.
