any way to tell when the the F23 needs Fluid Change?
Tuesday, October 09, 2012 10:42 AM
My car is reaching the 92000 mile mark and as far as I know the Manual Fluid has never been changed. What would be symptoms of needing fresh fluid in a manual Transmission? Please and Thank You.

I change mine when I do the clutch. That way the tranny is lighter and I also change the output shaft seals at the same time.

On the inside my car looks like a fighter jet.

its just the gm tech update for getrag growl. as time went on the fill level recommendation was raised. kinda a must to overfill if you don't have those wretched "wavy washers" that kill synchros.

I've been having a problem with mine not holding 40 in 5th quite like it use to and having to down shift on a little more then 10 degree slope or so and making a bit more noise too.

I knew the tech update called for more didn't know it was a whole quart. I just put 2 qrts. in it. Trans seems to like it better shifts nicer doesn't miss 3rd like it use to and is easier to get into 1st in the cold. Still "growls" but pretty much come to accept that.

Put in 2 qrts of a nice quality ATF not manual fluid. I'm using Royal Purple max ATF and it seems to like it a lot. Might as well change it and see what it does. But symptoms sound more clutch related then transmission.

But I have noticed it seems to come around during changes in temps and seasons when it happens the most and then goes away.

there is no reqular service required

on the drivers side theres 2 ports with the car level remove the lower bolt (think its and allen key) that will drain the trans
once empty install that bolt

then to fill remove red cap on top of trans and fill there is another allen key hole near that top when the fluid comes out its full should be 1.8-2 liters

Yeah I decided I am gonna change it and I will be putting the Amsoil Syncromesh in it since I am buying another jug of oil and a filter for when I do my next oil change which isn't for a while yet though.
