I'm not sure how wide you can or can't go with your tires... But if your looking for durability and gas mileage I know Michilan has like a 80k miles/6 year warranty on their tires. You might want to try tire rack or a similar site and look up all the tires that fit your car (they have most all brands/model tires) and make your decision there. Then you get several reviews and ratings for the tires in different weather conditions and etc...

I've heard 225/50R16 is the widest you can go...

I just got the dunlop sport signatures off of tirebuy.com for $423 installed. They have a $25 off coupon code and free shipping for july. I love the tires and they are warrantied for 60,000 miles. The have awesome grip too for high performance all seasons.

If you want better gas mileage, I would stick with 205/55R16 and make sure they are properly inflated. If you want to sacrifice a small amount of gas mileage for a small performance increase, then go with 225/50R16.

On the stock 6 inch wide wheel I wouldnt go wider than a 205, hell a 205 is just a tad too big.
