Has anyone ran 205/75R14 on a 3rd gen before for winter?

My ideal winter tire that I was looking for was 195/75r14 because I know many people have ran them before and its a little taller than my stock 205/55r16. We get pretty extreme winters so winter tires are important and a little extra ground clearance would help. I came across a good deal on studded 205/75r14s with steelies that actually came off a 93 cavalier. Not sure if there is any differance between 2nd and 3rd gens for tire fitment. Looking under my car, it looks like there is room but figured it would be better to see if anyone else has ran that size or even a 26" tire? Thanks.

Fitment between the 2nd and 3rd gens are pretty damn close. I run a 205/55/16 on my 2nd gen with no issues.

Use the website www.willtheyfit.com to get a good idea of the difference.

Yeah Im hoping the fitment is the same. I did buy the tires, there was only 2, tires are like 80% and only $40 for the pair, so cant really go wrong. worst case, Ill have to buy 195/75s and sell the 205/75s, still looking for another 2 tires to have a complete winter set but I will see how they fit tomorrow. Then decide whether to buy 2 more 205s or 4 195s....

Well they fit really good. Back for sure 100% wont rub. Tires are as high as bottom of strut spring perch but side wall is about inch away. Fronts fit good. Under full lock. It gets about 1/2 inch from inner wheel wells but I don't think there will be a problem. Ground to fender gained about 1/2 - 5/8 of an inch. Time to look for 2 more tires. Believe it or not. Im kinda excited for winter now.

205/75/14 is about 1.2" taller than stock (0.6" larger radius), will result in speedometer being off roughly 4.9%, and will cause the speedometer to read slower than actually traveling and miles to rack up slower.

That being said I will be running 195/75/14 on my car this year. Narrow is better for winter use, so personally I wouldnt run the 205s for snow tires, but at $40 for a pair that is quite cheap.

They are quite abit taller, I was hoping for 195/75s but got a good deal on these, found another two tires, altogether cost me around $150 for 4 newer tires on steelies. I know the speedo with be off abit, thats fine. Being a 14" tire, the contact patch (thread touching pavement) is narrow than lets say a 205/55/16, on the 14s, the contact patch is about 5.5-6" wide, where on my 16s, I dont know off the top of my head but thought they were closer to 8". when these tires wear out, I will probably look at 195/75s depending on how these tires are in the snow.

I run a 205/65/15 on my snow tires and they are fine, just a little wider/taller than stock

Yeah I even had 215/55r16 winterforces on my cobalt and I could easily plow through over a foot of snow, they were awesome on ice too. I had LSD too so that alone probably helped out. narrow tires would be better but a good winter tread in any size should help lots compared to all seasons.

Just a heads up. My 195/75/14 mounted on Calais W40 wheels will rub the bottom of the spring seat on the front struts under the right circumstances. Be sure of your fitment before logging to many miles.

No rubbing at all but My tires are taller then the spring seat but they are about an inch or two away from it, the closest spot to touch is the inner wheel wells but I have a little room, if I had a different offset or wheel spacers, they would rub though, thats how close they are.

I did also realize after my post that I do run a -1.5* camber on the front.
