the bulbs for the Hvac are 74's
I checked my repair manual and it looks like its the same with the 00+ as it is with the 95-99.

yup same here i got to at autozone 2 at advance...my leds should come in today of tommrow
Well . . . I talked to my parts guy today at my dealership, and they don't have any diagrams for the 00+ clusters. He said that if the lights go out, they have to be sent out for maintenance, so he doesn't think the lights are simply plug & play. So unless someone has a confirmation for this that the 00+ are the same as the pre-99, its more then likely not.
in section 12-10 of Haynes repair manual for 95-04 models, it shows that you can remove the bulbs (at least with the 95-99 instrument cluster pics) but i looked for anything that said the bulbs could not be removed by 'normal people' but couldn't find anything. i assume that the bulbs can be removed from 95-04 models all the same. i'm going to try to replace my bulbs in the 01 if i can find the correct bulb number and i'll let you know if it works or not.
Cool, keep updated on it cause I have an 05 that wants to have blue gauge cluster lights, lol
This worked great!
Although I used 4 forward facing LED's and didn't really get the full effect like yours, but it did work.
Very simple to and quick to do.
BTW. They are Amber colored. Easier on the eyes, and well... But does this mean I have a "JDM" gauge cluster now? lol

just got my LEDS in today I'll install on Saturday I'll post pics then... how long was the install?
this is from a 2000+ so obviously he didnt use this technique then?
anyway awesome write up
2000+'s need leds to be saudered right in.
My Cav
I give up...
i'm buying a VW those people love trees, so they should love eachother too... "Andy"
hey man they say this is a qucik install shouldn;t take more than an hour.... my leds should be here sometime this week i am doing the hvac too so it will take me longer
install time depends on how well you know your interior..if youve changed your cd player already then you should know how to remove your dash..cus thats really the only hard part about this..once you take the dash off theres only 2 screws holding the cluster in..and you DO NOT have to take the cluster apart to do this..just look on the back of it
