Looking much better than the old setup, I think. Good work dude.
^ Thanks Matt...means a lot.
Well I did get some progress done today...I'm quite happy with my end results after today.
I first took my vents and wrapped them with tin foil.
This is a back shot...
Once I glued the fabric around the vent, I was able to glue it down to the dash and strech the fabric:
After my cloth was stretch and soaked, I added 3 layers of cloth down.
There was very minimal trimming needed, and the fiberglass took shape to the vents perfectly!
However...the next pics are of the dash re-installed in the car:
A passenger side shot:
The interior from outside the car:
My defroster vent...I spent some time using my dremmel cutting 3 clean lines on the top of the dash where my air will flow out from for my defroster...Gota do some work under the dash so the air flow goes right to the top properly.
I still got more work to do, but the dash is now taking shape nicely now. I don't think I'll get to work on it Wednesday...so hopefully Thursday I can get some car time squeezed in before I go to work for the night.
man i love this, i know alot of people have said this but it really makes me want to fiberglass something!
how much materials would i need to just do my radio bezel?
damnit you work fast man. i love that you put back the vents and your own defroster. most people forget about that or leave them out. props for putting your own where you want them.

I NEED a 97-99 LD9 engine harness for an auto.PM if u hav info.!!
hmmmm you got me thinking of an idea for my dash thats gonna be here shortly
ill PM you pics and ideas
and he even kept the hvac! most people i know would've just junked and suffered. great work man! so how much does your car weigh now? j/k
Can I be the first person to get high in your car without using illegal substances?

What are you doing with your bezel?...It all depends really what you are doing...are you modding it at all? Just want the glassed look?...If you just want the fiberglass look, you don't need any fiberglass, just sand it smooth. If you're modding it, you really won't need much since it's a small area.
Yeah...I decided to keep my HVAC in the car...I want to keep the car functional as well. The defroster vent was a must, b/c last winter when I was driving it, my windows fogged up hardcore! Having to drive and wipe your windows with a cloth wasn't fun/safe. Plus...the new look I'm going for is a nice cleaner concept...not as crazy wild. I still have the same components and stuff, just doing a cleaner install.
Jason: I was thinking that too, but I think I'll be okay. I've done 8 layers where the bolts are...But yeah..I'll see what happens as the time progresses.
Matt:....Lol...sure buddy...but I've beat you to it...I've gone through like 8 gallons of resin now

. Come on by and help sand if you want!
Vince is a stoner.... thats the only real reason he enjoys fiberglassing..

Amazing work as always! Makes me want to redo my interior SO bad

Between you and sndsgood. Its bound to happen
i love this car!!! wish i had the skills to pull of an interior like that... how soon can u take my car and do a remake on my interior??? haha
Viral (Kris) wrote:Vince is a stoner.... thats the only real reason he enjoys fiberglassing..
I'm glad someone said it, now for Vince to finnally admit it lol
looking good Vince what are your plans for the final product wrapped? or paint I think that would look killer all flat black
so now that i'm caught up...
the @!#$ floor!!? thats amazing.
can't wait to see this thing come together further
how much more difficult is it to remove this dash versus the factory dash?
And where exactly are your mounting spots? It looks smooth as hell but makes me think it'd be a total nightmare to take the dash out.
HAHA...Cute Kris and Justin...Mofo's!
Anywho...
In terms of the final finish...I'm still kicking so many thoughts in my head...do I do blue (exterior of my car), and c/f two tone...do I do some nice fabric wrapped parts to look more stock...Do I do a beige more classy style finish...
I have so many thoughts and ideas going on...I really gota start to think about it more now.
Today I went out and got 4 cans of filler (cheaper to buy a box of 4

).
It's almost the time to start filling and sanding...I just want to do some more glass work tomorrow on the center console where it meets the dash...I need to cut some stuff out and re-mold it so it's rounded at the front. Plus I need to make a mounting spot for the top cover piece (it currently sits in place).
How does the dash get bolted in...
Well firstly the dash gets bolted down on the left and right side of the dash using the existing mounting spots. The base of the dash is connected to the side panels on the console, and those are mounted to the stock mounting place of the stock console. It will stay in there nice and good once I have it bolted down.
In terms of taking the dash out...It really isn't that bad. My previous dash was a pain in the butt, believe me...This one actually slides on pretty easily. Just gota wiggle it a bit, and it pops right out.
I'll get some new pics tomorrow. Tomorrow will be the last day of the nice weather...It will rain yes...but it says +12. From there, the temperature keeps dropping day after day after day

...I hate the winter!
So do you think this is it, or do you got like 2 or 3 more complete re- builds left in ya?
well i wouldnt be modding my dash bezel much, if any... maybe a couple gauge pods (but i doubt it)
it just has lots of cracks and a chunk missing.
Wow that is looking sick!! I may be coming to you for a few pointers in the near future.

Well...to be honest...I would recommend just getting a new bezel...glass doesn't bond to plastic too well at all, it will just give you more headaches and a lot more work that just replacing the piece itself. Check some local junkers first...
Well I got a little bit done yesterday. First, before I wanted to start filling my dash and sanding, I needed to make sure the t.vs, cd player and hvac fit nice and cleanly into the dash once again to clean up the lines and any gaps. The center of the dash wasn't a huge concern for me, it was the larger 12" monitor. The frame of the tv itself was in pretty bad shape and in no way show quality at all. The buttons were recessed about an inch and I had to come up with a way to solve the tv frame itself.
With some quick thinking, I was able to use a thin piece of MDF I had, and measured out the tv and button locations. I ended up extending the buttons 1.5" inches. This way when I put my mdf frame around the tv, only the buttons and screen itself will be visible.
I am very pleased with the outcome thus far. Things are finally starting to shape nicely now.
The one thing I'm debating to do is to mold the new frame work for the tv in place so there are no lines...just the screen and button openings...IF I do that however, it will be harder for me to install the tv when it comes time to install the dash. I'm in a bit of a toss up right now, but as long as the frame work and dash itself are painted the same color, or wrapped in the same fabric, it won't look bad at all.
I hope to get some more work done on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings before heading into work for the nights. I'll keep the progress pics coming along.
yea i went to the yard and found one actually...
what type of materials would i need to mod the cracked one, gauge pods, remove cig lighter, maybe some other little things (this will be my first glass project so it would mostly be a learning experience)
