Well I say go for it. I know a guy who wants to get 400whp out of a stock L61. Do I think he will get it, hmmm no, but should he not try.

I don't want to "go for it" if I knew i had weaker rods, id rather get this dialed in, and get a new 06 come early spring

Yes tinkles, possibly, and moving on to something else. Doubtful though. I may do rods, I believe it's possible to do rod's with the engine in the car

But you have to take the pistons out to do rods anyways. The engine only needs to come out if the crank needs machining. Head work, rods and pistons you can keep the engine in. but getting the crank out with the engine in seems like it would be rather difficult.

ok, by comparison and inference, we have determined Phil's 2008 does not have the forged rods. The rods in my 2007 bottom end are similar to LSJ rods, and Phil's are definitely different. If anyone has a picture of an L61 rod from the bottom, we could put the nail in the coffin, but I'm satisfied with suggesting to keep away from 2008 engines. I should not be surprised GM would do something like this, but we're still highly disappointed.
Here is an LSJ rod from the bottom:
Here is my 2007 bottom end, note the rods look exactly the same as the LSJ rods:
Here is Phil's 2008 bottom end, note the differences in the rods from the first picture:
Those look weird. The end caps on the 08 bottom end almost look like stamped steel. Certainly not cast or forged, but they don't really look like what sintered powdered metal pieces look like either, weird.

Ouch Phil that sucks hate to see this happen. Lucky you found out before you broke @!#$.
Yeah thanks guys.... Thinking get this dialed in @ 10 psi, save for daily then save for the carillo rods. Swap them in while motor is in car. Stock pistons should be ok for 450

That sounds like a good plan.
Im also entertaining offers on the car. Trades or Cash. It will be cleaned up amd have a new harness and tuned before sale.

LOL did you really pull the motor and tear it down just to see what rods it had?
i gotta say though man... you win some, you lose some. so you found out what NOT to do. i say good job... you just saved a lot of people the trouble.
If it takes forever.... I will die trying. Underdog Racing
you have to use the 2.2 pan to make the swap work so they would have already had access to the end caps to see a difference.
sucks to hear phil. do you really want to sell it though? last time you sold qbe, you turned around and bought another to build again. just seems wasteful to put all the effort in to the car to turn around and part/sell.
I'm glad to see this was able to be looked further into and POSSIBLY saved you from a big headache.
