Either way I'm looking at about $1000. He didn't have any hard numbers, but he said this should hold up to 350hp. I would have thought it would be more. Does all that and fine tuning with HPT increase its rating at all? I could also buy a used auto for fairly cheap, install LSD, replace all seals etc, and then tune with hpt. I've considered going manual, but I just don't want to. Any advice on my two options???

hes a great guy to deal with...i dealt with him when i ordered all the performance rebuild stuff for my 4t40e

Read this!

You'll really want those clutch packs. They are working great with the 450-500whp 4t45e guys.

I know they had / have a stage two kit as well.

I posted a quick how to tune the trans, but I can not find it on the forum for some reason.

I've read that about four times all the way through. It's almost four years old though, so I figured I'd see if anyone chime in on experiences or extra advice. I think I'll just get a used trans, throw it in, drive it nice and start building this one up and just deck it out. I'd love the trans tune though!

I know that eco trans and LD9 trans have different bellhousings, but what other transmissions can I use/are interchangeable on my 96 LD9? Auto or manual. I can't find straight answers on previous posts. Thanks.

Ok, so I can go pick up an auto trans (yes, 4 speed, 4t40e blah blah blah) about an hour and a half away for $150. Only 68k miles on it and it had a complete flush job done at 50k before it was wrecked. It's from a 98! I shouldn't have any problems swapping this in while I save up and build up my current trans would I? I've already done the 97-98 ECU and harness swap, so I could tune with hpt. Any reason why this wouldn't work???

......If it is from a LD9 it will fit. If it is from a LN2....it will not bolt up. I have a low mileage 00 LN2 trans in my garage. The internals are the same.....bell housing not so much. You can also take the guts out of a 4T45E and transplant them into a 4T40E. Brad...Zyaaa knows more about that though.

I found a used auto from a 96 LD9 car about an hour away for $200 already pulled out and comes with a 30 day warranty. I guess now my plan is to install this used trans for the time being while I build up my current trans with parts good for 500hp/tq. Thanks MD Enforcer

Here's a shot of the new wheels and tires. I only put them on the rears for now, because this Monday some buddies and I are yanking out the trans.

Will this project ever end?!

Is that a dent on the right rear or is that a reflection? Car is looking good.

Yep, that's a nice little crease. It was there when I bought it. Body work is sidelined bc of the trans. I'd be driving and fine tuning the car if it wasn't for the trans. I can put it in 1st gear and manually shift to second. In second I can build a little boost, but no third, fourth or OD. I thought about going manual trans but I jacked up my left knee while in Afghanistan requiring surgery and it'll prob be a few years before that actually gets done.

Once again...on jack stands. Pulling the trans out. I ran out of time, energy, light and help. I think I just have the Tq convertor bolts before I can actually pull it out. I'm planning on upgrading the PCV system as well. Dual catch can from the boosted sticky!!! I'll also have to address the oil return line at the oil pan because it's leaking a little.

It's time for a beater DD for sure.

Transmission is now at a local trans shop. They looked a little confused when I told them there's a limited slip insert in there lol. That lead to details of the turbo build. Shouldn't need a complete rebuild, but I guess we shall see what they say.

Just got this today.

Trans shop jacked me around, so my trans looks like this currently.

Time for some positive changes. Gonna make it happen soon!

Picked this up today. $265 with 56k miles from a 98 Cavi.

Before I cleaned it up a little.

Got it kind of set up. Saturday project.

The only difference I've noticed from original trans is the trans cooler line adapter thing. My 96 is flush with each other, but this one has one line sticking out further than the other one (staggered). Is there an official name for that little piece? Where can I get one?

The adapter thing where the two trans cooler lines attach too. This is from my 96 tranny. The 98 has the two holes staggered. As in the bottom one sticks out just a little more than the top. So, what is this piece called? Suggestions on where to get it? Thanks.

Ended up taking the sub frame out. Didn't see any way of getting around it in order to put the trans in.

Did a lot of little things, and eventually we got the trans in place. Not fully bolted up yet.

I have three different 24 hour shifts this week, so I'm not sure how much more progress will be seen till next week.
