My $700 03 5 Speed ECO Cavalier Project
Monday, November 11, 2013 6:45 AM
My white 96 Z24 auto Cav pissed me off enough. Here's my new project. Of course, it has tan interior lol. This time around I'll be changing it to the dark interior. The goal for this car is going to be my clean, fun, daily driver. Bought it for $700. Definitely needs some TLC, but it runs and drives. Drove it all the way back for the 2 hour trip home.

Befoe

Quick clean up

Plans include:
Air Intake
Exhaust
Poly motor & trans mounts
Eibach Sportline springs on Tokico Struts
Front strut bar
Swap to dark interior
Paint exterior flat black
Wheels and tires
Some kind of side skirts
All maintenance parts & services needed

197,000. Yeah, no boosting till she blows for sure. Even then. I think I'd like to just keep it as my daily.

Anyone ever put these side skirts or something similar on a 03-05 with the stock front bumper?

^^^That will look way off. Those skirts are low. Without some kind of lip on the front bumper, it'll look out of place. I'd look for some Z24/LSS skirts, or the skirts from a 95-02 convertable if you're not going to put a front lip on it.

I have some 95-99 Z24 skirts on another car. I just figured the line across the top might throw the look off. I'll have to take it off and hold it up in person and get a feel for it I guess.

I need your dash lol I love my tan interior but it's cracked. Not a bad looking cav and I like that it's getting tasteful mods!

I couldn't believe the dash wasn't broke to pieces. The rest of the car was not taken care of...but somehow the dash is perfect...go figure lol. I was thinking of swapping in the dark interior until I really got looking at how the tan in it is in pretty nice shape except the carpet. But I already had a replacement at home anyway. So, yeah, I guess I'll keep the tan.

The tan grows on you honestly. I had tan in my camaro and missed it and my z has tan and I'm content. Plus it flows with my gold car. But can't wait to see more progress

I'm bored so here's my latest update...
This is what I ended up doing to the car.

Then I traded her in for this...

But of course I still have the white J, and I have plans for it. Need to get it running again before summer for some track time.

Yep. I had the aftermarket parts for like 2-3 years just laying around, so it's not like I had just bought everything brand new. They were all used off other cars or off my white Z24. I didn't think the stick shift was going to effect my left knee as much as it did (busted it in Afghanistan). I wanted a truck that sat up more and was an auto. This dealer (on paper anyway) gave me a generous trade in value for the Cav, and I went for it. Like I said...I still have the 96 Z. Which may or may not become a V8 RWD conversion

Sorry to hear about your knee, I was reading everything thinking wow, he bought this for $700, seems like a good deal, then watched the progress, new this new that, wow starting to look good... then traded it in for a truck.... I was like wtf too.... all that work then bam, gone. Truck looks good too. Any plans for it? Did you make money on the car? most people part out aftermarket parts. Just wondering if dealership seen all the work you put in and maybe you broke even or made a little? What brand of seats are those? They look pretty good.

They were summit racing seats. I never went over all the aftermarket parts on it with them, but they knew I worked at an auto shop and could see that I had done some tasteful things to it. Like I said, I got a generous offer. I pretty much broke even. Maybe made a few bucks. The truck is freaking sweet. 2" level kit (which keeps a small rake down compared to the rear still, perfect), of course the wheels (18") and tires (32.5"), weather tech floor mats throughout, flowmaster exhaust, and a tune is coming soon to disable the Active Fuel Management system (shuts it down to 4 cyl during cruising), raise the idle RPMs just a hair and dial in the A/F ratio a little better to get a few more ponies out of her. Other than that the truck is staying unmolested and be my daily/camping rig. I'm still not sure if I'm going to sell the built LD9 motor out of the white Z, keep it, or just say screw it and do a V8 RWD conversion like I wanted to ever since I bought it.
