DarknStrange Version 2.0
Friday, February 13, 2015 7:14 PM
This is the start of my slow build thread. I'm sure some things I do to my car won't be liked by all, but I'm building I for me.

Starting out as a 2003 LS Sport 2 Dr

Plans are as follows-

Corvette saw blade wheels- 17x8.5 F/ 17x9.5 R et+56(I know it's been done before but the wheels were cheap and will suit my plans perfectly)

245/40 F -255/40 R

2" 5x100-5x120 hubcentric. Adapters 57.1mm hub bore

2" carbon fiber flares at all 4 corners

BC extreme drop Coilovers with 8k/7k swift springs

Faux alligator skin headliner, door inserts, center console lid

Haven't chosen new seats yet but I'm looking for something more comfortable

Wood grain steering wheel

And little touches here or there
----------

I'm just building a fun, clean summer driver. Just waiting till some warmer weather here in northern ohio before I install the Coilovers. The wheels are currently being tried and the curb rash taken care of. Should have them back on monday

This should be good.
You going to add some camber to the mix?

I'm not planning on excessive camber. A touch to improve handling maybe.

If you're worried about handling, why run staggered tire sizes? Especially with the wider tires on the rear of a fwd car...

Curious to see how this turns out.

I've spoken to several people. The added overall grip should help handling despite the possible slight understeer effect of a staggered setup. I won't be auto-xing or road racing the car and likely will never push it to a point of understeer. I may be wrong but I don't see a ton of issues for daily driving.

I think you'll have even MORE understeer than stock with this setup.

^^this

I could understand staggering with the wider tires in the front as many do this for autox.

Might be better off finding another set of front wheels and running 8.5's all the way around.

While I don't disagree about adding understeer I will NOT be racing the car in any type of road race or auto-x. With that said how often do you encounter a situation while daily driving that induces under/over steer? On my daily commute to and from work and or the store I do not ever reach speeds that come near having to worry about either!

depends... how often do you drive on wet/snowy/icy roads?

I don't drive my 03 very often in bad weather. I have my 93 4 Dr for those days. This build is just supposed to be a fun summer driver. No racing or bad weather. I do understand the concerns though.

Those are cool. They are real carbon fiber and you just drill your own mounting holes?

Yup. They are very nice compared to some of the cheapo plastic ones I've seen.

Here's a quick mock up shot with my cell phone as I froze my butt off in- 10* wind chill. I will get better pics when I install the Coilovers this Friday.

Agreed. It is going to push hard. Especially with those very hard springs.

She's LOW now...not as low as could be but I'm already dragging catalytic converter on small bumps. New exhaust in the works as my stock muffler has rust holes.

Sorry for crappy cell shots.(it's freezing out) and I know she needs a bath...it's too cold for local carwash to be open

The back end looks lower than the front.

It does sit slightly lower in the rear, until I get a nice enough day to roll the fenders I won't be going much lower in the front.

Oh and picked these up for free from an in law.

205/50R17 (yes they will have a little stretch but are pretty darn close to overall diameter of my stock wheel/tires)

And scored a diamond audio d3 dvc,box and a small soundstream amp locally for $60.

If you put those big ass corvette wheels on your cav , be prepared to change your front left wheel bearing quite often enough!

Since when are 8.5/9.5" 17's big?? Go troll somewhere else bro. You've trolled all over this forum and honestly it's annoying. If I do have to replace wheel bearings they are a whopping $17 each. And take a whole Hr to change one? No biggie to me.
