i am trying to decide which motor would be the best to get..im selling my current cav and looking to buy a newer 5 speed one. i love the look of the LS sport cav but they only come with the eco motor..but i really love the 2.4 motor. my question is which has the most potential as far as superchargers and such. thanks for the comments.

2.4 or Eco, get whichever one is in the model year Cav/Fire that is in your price range.

i didn't have a good experience when i test drove an ecotec. i have an 02 z24 with the 2.4 LD9 engine. in september of last year my brother was looking to buy an 04 ls sport with the eco. i drove it for him cuz he wanted me to contrast anc compare.

as much support as chevy says they are going to give to this engine, it'd be the better choice IF you plan on modding it.

stock for stock i'd take my 2.4 with 50,000 miles over a brand new ecotec any day. the eco had a lot of lag in lower gears. getting onto the freeway i had the car in third gear doing about 55(long onramp) and i needed to get infront of a big rig, when i hit the gas it bogged way down. my 2.4 might bog when i first mash the pedal but it picks up real quick, the eco didn't. i had that truck driver flashing his lights and blowing his horn. i would have been better off to hit the breaks and get behind him.

to summarize, in my book the 2.4 is a lot better of an engine unless you plan on doing A LOT of modifications. and by a lot i don't mean the typical intake and exhaust...
