coolant temp gauge question
Wednesday, February 02, 2011 12:10 PM
Hello, just have a quick question. My car warms up fine when doing normal driving (city), but if I go on the highway the gauge seems to go back towards the Cold (c) mark on the gauge even after it is already in the normal temp range...any ideas? Thanks

it is because you are cramming more cold air through the rad. The thermostat should keep the tempurature from dropping to far down the "cold side", but if you are seeing the temp drop down to far, your thermostat may be stuck open.

I just posted this same problem....

If it is going quite a bit back toward cold you tstat is junk. Go to Advance Auto and get a Stant Superstat. Whole lot better than the junk ones

Funny thing is.... I just replaced the thermostat like say 3 months ago ..it was fail-safe one

Doesn't matter, I replaced one and had to put another one in seriously a day later. Change the tstat or change the surge tank cap first then go from there.
