Misfire on #3 cylinder which has low compression.

My car is a 2.2L alero & it's always had this misfire & I finally decided to check compression. My results were unmistakable. Either I have a bad compression ring or a bad valve. Does anyone know bout how much either one of those would cost to fix? I could do it myself it's unreasonable but if I do it l, I will be working outside on it.

Complete 2.2 motors can be had relatively cheap from most salvage yards. Maybe 400 bucks? It varies a lot between areas.

If you don't know if you can tackle an engine job in a cavalier, you probably can't. No disrespect, but don't get in over your head.
