i think they are more worried about hybrids and higher displacement engines dominating

Basically the rules are setup to limit the domination by Hondas.

Hondas will be the car to beat base on several factors.

But that doesn't mean you can't build a competitive J-body, Focus or Neon.

It would be more interesting if they limted engine swaps, but B series CRX's are still beatable. You just have to build your car right.

The J-body's biggest problem is weight. Only Golfs would be heavier.

I think a 2.2 OHV would be legal, the problem is would you be competitive?

Based on a 8 car entry -

12's will win, 13's will be competitive, 14's will get you in the show.

This being a new class, I don't expect any seriously fast cars to start with, mostly 13 second and 14 second cars.

Don't let the fact that Hondas will be the most popular stop you...

NHRA would probably allow an exception on the 2.2L, but the problem would be that to make it competative, then you wouldn't be class legal. I'm talking High Compression with race gas, aftermarket computer and lots of illeagal weight reduction.

You could be competitive with the 2.4L TC or the 2.4L Eco(best bet) when it comes out, and not a sedan.
This is why I have no intentions running this class,

at least for now, anyways!

2.0 Quad 4!!! Let it rev to the sky!!!!!!!. They would s*** in their pants seing you rev that Olds engine. 14-15:1 compression with big cam reving at 9500rpm. Come and get me. You can always use the 2.3 but you'll have to spend alot more.

Running that high of compression you will need to run a much higher OCT Gas... I think they have a limit for this class . . . . .

actually a motor swapped quad 4 into a very lightweight factory Jbody could be very competitive.

they listed the minimum weights required for the engines. 2350 with driver is the weight for a 4 cylinder car. a quad 4 is about the maximum displacement, so all you gotta do is work on making all motor power. if you can make it down to the minimum weight, then you can hang with the hondas, cause they cant drop the weight below 2350 either.

notice a few other rules limiting speed. 225 wide radials. thats going to suck making it hook up.

"BRAKES:
Four-wheel hydraulic brakes mandatory. See General Regulations
3:1. Carbon fiber brake rotors prohibited."

I don't like this rule.
Sound like i might need to invest in a rear disk kit.

If its worth doing its worth over doing.

this sounds interesting. I know I Have way to much work to do on my car before thinking about doing this but I think it would be fun.
