Oh and the reason i know is because i consistently run high 14s with a g-tech. I got new tires and rims, so im going to try it out now.

Don't be upset when you run that at the track. It's a great possibility of a 5 speed 14 sec time than an automatic. And like I said it also depends on your track conditions.
My Car
You might be right. The only way to know for sure is to actually run it.
As for the transmissions, The automatic pulls really nice. The only problem is from the start. I need more torque at the wheels to take off faster. Thats what i'm going to work on. With a 5 speed i would definitely be in the 14s, i just like automatics better. I don't know why. Hopefully i will do some transmission work to make the automatic better.
Automatics are slow stock, but once you get the car faster, the difference in transmissions really doesnt exist anymore, but im no where near fast enough to be as fast or faster than a 5 speed.....yet.
GM found out a WELL tuned stock ecotec put out like 180 at the crank i think... Man if only we had the tuning software to make use of out 10:1 compression ratio.

what?? you mean to tell me theres NO kind of PCM interface stuff for GM 4cyls? nothing like LS1edit or stand alone DFI or HPP or ANYTHING? i know with the LS1 motors, to get the most out of their boltons, they need to reprogram fuel/spark tables etc in the PCM
no one has this kind of tuning avalible for these cars? that flat out sucks! theres a good amount of power being left on the table when doing boltons but not doing tuning. OBD2 sucks

crackajax----- theres no way your not pulling around 14.6-14.7 with those mods i would be disappointed if you werent
hurry and get to a track hahaha. im also try to do an all motor Eco and i honestly think that with what i have after a header and full exhaust i will just break into the 14's myself
04 sunfire auto, mid 15's n/a, and still going
sorry for the cursed double post but forgot something
crackajax if you do find some upgrades for the 4T40E PLEASE post them up anywhere haha
i cant find them anywheres just a 3000 stall convertor for like $500

Don't go by a G-Tech.
Withy our mods I would like to think it could pull 14's, but auto J's just do not perform well on the track unless boosted, or nitrous. That goes for any motor in a J. I know a guy with a 2.4 auto, on the street he runs real close to me, but at the track it is night and day. I'll give you a low 15.
FU Tuning
Yeah, i guess i could be short of 14s, but close. I just need to find a close track and i'll go. I shouldn't be too far off.

Sure, but i'm probably not doing it anytime soon. I've got a couple of other things to do first. But if you find any, then post them too. I really havent found anything either.
Sunfires rule! (Tom) wrote:All you need to get an eco into 14's is a bunch of bolt ons and an excellant track. like cold, low elevation, no wind, great traction, ect.
The best I've pulled so far is a 15.778 with a 2.2 60' . I though it was a near perfect run. I took out 91 lbs from the car. I killed a newer SI with this run. he ran a 15.9 with a 2.3 60' (intake, header, exhaust) But it was about 90 F outside.
you dont want it to be cold, if it is you wont get great traction
you want it to be cooling off outside w/ the track staying warm

we got pushed aside for the LS2
their is a guy on the org trying to make something but yeah
it sucks for us
Yeah well good lucky trying to hit 14's with an auto cause it just hit me that i cant if im driving my car. I'm trying the same thing but with a 2.4 alero. I thought i would be able to get it no problem with my mods and some weight reduction but no I could only pull a 15.31 at 89 with a horrible 2.33 60 ft . these cams flat out robbed me of my low end and that fact that one i have an auto so can't launch as good as a manual an two being 240 pounds isn't helping me out either. funny enough for $hits and giggles i threw my friends 110 pound girls friend in the car and she runs a 15.14 at 90 with a worse 60 ft of 2.39 sigh...........

really. damn that blows. so the boosted guys are basically running crappy FMUs and stock OBD2 ECMs? man thats gotta be killing them knowing so much extra power is being unused. tuning is everything with boosted cars

Yup, when that software comes out, expect much greater potential from our cars. It'll make it so much more worthwhile to mod our cars.

Where did you find this? Do you have a link, because thats pretty cool.
I tried but the car was not up to it
not running well at all with ultra94 gas! best et of 15.9230 at84.43mph with a bad 2.338860ft
they made me go in the water box because there was a car on the side and i think i overheated the azenis
my other 60ft's2.2761 and 2.2210 next time she will run better. i have a few tricks. i was testing shock settings and tire pressure settings. i got my best 60ft with front tire pressure set at 23 and the rear at 55 shocks front 3 rear 8. i needed more runs to get the car better and i know not to shift into 4th now it killed my mph by 2.2mph at top end
see ya!
Please, for the love of God---if you are reading this and you are using a higher octane gasoline at the track (in a non boosted or nitroused engine)---STOP IT! It does nothing at all. Read all the posts in the performance forum about this---it's a waste of money.
Back to the topic......I think the ECO has a really good chance of hitting 14s N/A. I think all I need on top of what I have are cams, crank pulley, control arm bushings, and maybe a TB. Oh, and good launches will help. If that doesn't do it, I am giving up!
red cavy i was proving a point to my buddy my car runs best with 87/gumout hands down. i have tried everything and that just works!
thats what i autox with. i think i can get my times in the mid 15's on a cool test/tune night but i need exhaust bad that is holding the car back. even though i ported the manifold it is still wayyy to restrictive and also the flex joint does not flow well at all. that is soon to be fixed
i have all the pipe and the muffler i just need a res and a header. hopefully this winter i can get my charger and then it's on
see ya!

Different car react to different things. My all motor car runs better on 93. I also have cams, before cams it ran better on 87.

I dont want to stir the pot, but this guy doesn't have any timeslips or vechicle mods in his profile. In my books this guy says he broke into the 14's , like I broke into the 13's. I'm working on in car video's and reg video's (everyone will know when i go 14.99 or less). I race almost every weekend, and will get there this year, I WILL guarantee that. If I'm not the first, I will be an earshout behind and breathin down your neck

My team and I have allready lost over .75 of a second and gained over 3 mph from last year.
GOOD LUCK

Tell me what times you get. I should be close to your times.
Is it a 4-2-1 header? Thats the way to go since you are an auto. I should have done that and now i need to change my 4-1. And what size exhaust are you thinking about?
my exhaust plans are to go with a 4-1 with the cat connected right to the header, then a 24" glasspack right on the cat, and then side exit on the driver side, all 2.25".
i got the setup theory from the march issue of popular hot rodding magazine. they had a very good in depth article on how the exhaust reacts to different components. according to there article. that setup should work pretty well. we'll see i guess
