First Time At The Track With The Cav

Well first time running the cavalier at the track, my best time is as follows:

R/T .293
60` 2.362
330 6.634
1/8 10.168
MPH 69.76
1000 13.205
1/4 15.775
MPH 86.91

Mods are: performance wise, Cone filter on end of stock box, 2 1/4 catback w/ 18 inch resonator and magnaflow muffler... other mods, rk sport rear sway bar, freedom design front strut bar, goldline springs, gr-2's, and 17's...i ran the stock 14 inch steelies up front though.

I had to battle finding the sweet spot when launching, i would either get mad wheel hop, or i would launch with no wheelhop but somehow end up running slower...if you launch any higher then oh i would say around 2700 you are wasting your time, the best launch point i have found is around 2500, i launched once at 3000 and got a 15.823....well let me know what ya think

your car has a much better e/t in it...work on your 60'...keep playing with it...get that down to a 2.2, or even a 2.1....and you'll dip into low 15's...1 tenth in the first 60' = about .2-.3 in the 1/4

yea i know, im used to racing my mazda 6 out there, and the clutch and the way this cavalier wants to launch is difficult, its hard to find a happy medium with it....i want my 60' to be atleast 2.2...also another question, a few feet after the finish line i top out 3rd, i have shifted to 4th a few runs also, should i just stay in third or hit 4th?

i find in my car i need 4th on the track but i am about 1/2 second faster than you

you will find in a low 15 second run you will need it

time are pretty good for first time out with the car good luck

did you lower the tire pressure on the front at all?? and jack up the rear to MAX PSI helps with traction and rolling resistance

i have to hit fourth

the tires were air'd down a little bit up front, and i still had my 17's in back, that are really stiff, so i didnt mess with those pressures...right as i hit the line i bounce off the limiter, so im thinking if i get my launch down and bring that 60` time down, im going to need 4th also...ill be going back so i can practice the launch on this

well..one thing to consider...do you have more power at 4k....or near the limiter...I think the answer to that question is...at 4k...I'd shift

you mean shift each time at 4k? i dont feel the car start to drop off significantly until 6000rpms then it runs out of steam

i shift around 6K don't shift at 4K max HP is in the 5000 range

Am i better off shifting at 6,000 or going to 6500 or so right around redline?

Hey nick I think what you mentioned last night about shifting into 4th at 6000 would maybe give you alittle more kick at the end than holding it in 3rd! It will probably only be good for a .1 off! Better than what you did though eh!

N2O + Bolt-ons = 220Hp/250Tq

Coming Soon:HpTunersPro, EagleConnectingRods, WiescoPistons, 13sec2200

My friend has 03cav 15.8 -15.9 1/4 time with cat back , intake,K&N, auto . I beat him by 2-3links with 04cav 5 speed cat back and IAt mod. I think u could run better if u take off the resonator dont know? dont have dyno prof. but i took it off. I never took my cav to trac so dont know MY time.

well you can look right through resonators, they arent really restrictive....im going to go back with different tires and a high flow cat/header

that sounds good let me know how u do. What kind of headers are u running?

times are good, but if you really want to you could probably get lower

id say lower the tire pressure a few more psi, and launch at about 2600-2800 and see how that works, might still get to much wheel hop

as far as shifting ito 4th, ive done it before in my car and it doesnt make a difference, i usually jsut run 3rd....but then again i have a 2.2 OHV and ur ecotec has a different powerband (although your only about 2-3mph faster trap speed) so you migth be better of hitting 4th

What DropTopPaul meant was to shift into 4th at the end, it may help your time. If you're hitting the limiter, you've already hit the end of the powerband in 3rd. He didn't mean to shift at 4K in every gear---shifting into 4th at the end of the run would drop you down to 4K (in 4th), and thus back into the powerband.

Incidently, I have to go to 4th at the end of the track.....The car just seems to drop off after 6000-6200 RPMs

ahh ok, well i hit it like exactly when i get across the line, but ill try shifting to 4th around 6k and see how it works out

newb question time. i understand the the mph and i assume R/T is reaction time
1/8 and 1/4 are parts of a mile. so, is the 60, 330, and 1000 how many yards he has traveled?
