Bash Drag Racing Recap!!! Congrats Killerquad!!

Well, just got home from the bash.. There were somewhere around 50 cars that were entered to race. The cars were divided up into 3 seperate classes. H1- No power adders , street tires only.H2- street tires w/ power adder & finally H3- Power adder and slicks (basically full drag cars).

My day started out horrible... I was entered in the H3 class w/ Killerquad, the 2 Hahn drag cars, turbotech, speedracerz (Brian), hypsy (i think), some guy in a GM performance parts sunfire, some guy in Fiero and a couple other guys I didn't know.

My first run I bogged TWICE off the line and ran a horrible 14.8. Second run, I changed my plugs and bogged twice again for a 14.6 run. Third run I bogged once and ran a 14.5. By this time I was ready to call it a day and say screw qualifying. Then my buudy Don w/ his bad a$$ carbon fiber prosthetic leg came to save the day. He hooked up the Tech 2 on my car and found that I had a code for the IAT and the #1 O2 sensor. The IAT wiring had actually become unhooked from were I had spliced it a year ago, so we threw a quick fix on it. The IAT was tellin my computer that it was -40 outside so the computer just started dumping fuel flooding the engine. The O2 problem probably came from all the unspent gas, or maybe just cause it was a BOSCH sensor (junk). We reset the computer and I was ready to go just in time for the 1 qualifying run. Went out with no bogging and pulled off a 14.2. Nothing compared to my usual high 13 runs, but it was enough to qualify me 7th in the all race class....

Unfortanatly the first round had me paired against Killerquad.. I knew I had to tree him badly or force him to redlight.. Wasn't gonna happen.. Instead the O2 code came back and the car bogged again and I ran a 14.3 w/ another disgusting 60ft time.. (the red light didn't do me any good either, lol). My day was done and I was happy to achieve my goal of qualifying for the quick 8. I was the only automatic and one of two cars that didn't have any head or bottom end work.. I'm proud of that..

The final in the H3 class came down to Killerquads nitrous 2.3 Grand Am and Hahn racecrafts turbo 2.4 w/ nearly a full race body. The race looked like it was Killerquads off the line untill the Hahn mobile started reeling him in down the track. To everyones amazement they both ran the same exact E.T.!!!!!! Right down to the thousanth of a second!!! But it was Killerquad who took the tree w/ a near perfect reation time.. The hahn guys were dissapointed, but admited it was one of the best races they have seen. My hair was standing up on end in amazement of what an awesome race it was. A great way to top off the racing at the 2005 GMSC bash...

BTY... Thanks Brian (speedracerz) and Don for helping me get my car patched up enough to qualify for the quick 8...

We made eight passes total. During time runs we snuck up on nitrous jets, and settled on a 100 shot. Best ET in time runs was a 12.36

Left it alone for the only Q run and ran a 12.65 to qualify #3. The bottle went empty some time in third gear... oops.

Jake installed a fresh bottle for round one, and went 12.25 to go low ET for the race by a few thousandths. The bummer is, on my request he backed out of the nitrous @ 1,000' or the ET could have been a bit better.

In the semi's he line up against Adam and ran a 12.31 with an .029 light for the win.

In the finals he lined up against Darren and they both ran 12.357. Identical ET's to thousandth! Jake had an .011 light to Darren's .088. It was a great race and Jake said he saw him on his door/fender as they crossed the line.

The Hahn crew was gracious and congratulated Jake after the race. They are great people! Everybody was excited, regardless of the outcome.

We had to bolt back to Wisconsin so Jake could run at GLD. I see in another thread he went 12.20 Saturday morning, so the car continues to run well.

That was the best final Quick 8 race i have ever seen, everyone in the stands went crazy when both cars ran the exact same ET.

It was a great time all together.

My Recap.......

First run of the day, boost preset at 10psi...... .078 r/t....... ran a 13.375 @ 97.23...... hit the speed limiter.......

Second run, my brother Dugan took a shot at it...... ran a 14.4 @ 99.68..... .396 r/t......... also hit the limiter (I pulled the plug out of the VSS at this time..... it was already pulled once, but it managed to 'bounce' back into the sensor)

Third run...... Pulled up to the line with the Hahn Sunfire. Both of us did our burn outs, rolled forward. I started to stage, looked over at them, and they were doing something by the car. Wasn't even paying attention to the tree, since they hadn't staged yet. Next thing I know, I noticed my light was green, and thiers was red........ damn. My slip reads a 4.651 r/t...... but I was told the board said a 46.51..... oops. Rolled off the line, 2.5 60', got on it...... ran a 13.7 @ 109.83..... ran out of gear in 4th, and our trans doesn't have a 5th at the moment.......

Fourth run..... better r/t .038...... pulled a 13.338 @ 109.72...... ran out of 4th again..... way before the traps.

This time my brother decides to run it....... our last 'test & tune' before the Quilifing round...... and he manages to break the axle pulling out of our pit area....... but still made it to the staging lanes before it let go. Tow it back, do a quick axle swap, and get in line just in time for our Quilifing round.

We quilify 4th with a 13.221 @ 108.94...... .028 r/t...... same as before, needed 5th, but this time I kept on it in 4th, just held the RPM's @ 6200 till I crossed the line (was just letting up before)

First Elimination round vs. Hypsy....... Identicle r/ts..... .163's...... I missed 3rd, but still managed to catch him after the 1/8th, to pull a 13.426 @ 107.56 vs. his 13.994 @ 101.23

Second Elimination round vs. Darren........ my .084 r/t vs his .089....... my DRs no match for his slicks..... 2.142 60' vs. his 1.885......... ended up with a 13.482 @ 104.90 vs. his 12.631 @ 112.67.

Good enough for 4th place. I'm sure if we had the 7300 rev limit, or even a 5th gear, we would have been able to compete with the top 3........ it just sucked having to let off and coast threw the traps every round.

It was still a ton of fun racing and bs'in with everyone...... see you all next year.

Wow... that's all I can say is wow.

On another note... 12.3 was the best at this years bash? That's so two years ago.

Wait'll you all see what Frank runs this season.

I can't wait to try and go next year. I think I'll stay in the H2 class you guys are just nuts.... haha.
