2nd time at the track!
Saturday, August 20, 2005 9:48 AM
Well guys I posted a few months back about my first time going to the track with a best E/T of 17.33. So me and a few buddies went down Friday night to run. My first run was my worst because I was having trouble getting my car into first and then halfway down the track I thought I may have missed third so I let off but it ended up being just a awesomely fast shift for me. But anyway here are my times.

R/T: .443
60: 2.519
330: 7.256
1/8: 11.116
MPH: 63.62
1000: 14.432
1/4: 17.220
MPH: 80.86
(This run was my first personal best , then)

R/T: .158
60: 2.494
330: 7.117
1/8: 10.925
MPH: 64.39
1000: 14.208
1/4: 16.974
MPH: 81.26

R/T: .190
60: 2.441
330: 7.115
1/8: 10.934
MPH: 64.26
1000: 14.220
1/4: 16.996
MPH: 80.87

The last two were my best times for the night and I ran a few 17.00 as well. My best R/T of the night was a .025. The track is elevation is about 4,695 feet. My car is a "BONE STOCK" 2001 Cavalier Z-24 manual. I ran 91 octane and I took out the passenger seat. But the turbo is on its way (hopefully this time) so I figured I would get some base times to see some before and after results.

ouch, 16.9 is horrible for a 2.4 engine. work on your launch and shifts and you should get in the 15's.

normally with a little practice 15's are easy in a 2.4 manual.

15.891 @ 88 mph stock, still getting @!#$ty launches...

Ya I dunno what else to try except taking off slower.....I run ever gear to about 6,700 rpm and I was launching at about 3,500 rpm or so.... Any advice? My tires were set at 38psi all around.

that dont mean anything. except if you are bracket racing

that dont help much. the track i go to is at 632 feet

you should run about mid 15s depending on your ability

higher octane does not give you more power. 87 octane is fine unless you are boosted which i see you are planning on.

just keep practicing or find a track at a lower elevation

drop your tire pressure to like 25 psi, this should help you launch. the launch is key to good times.

6700 rpm?????? Are you hitting the rev limiter in EVERY gear?

No I ran it all the way thru the red line area just before it turns to the solid red. But I had one of my friends in his auto Z-24 with intake and motor mounts come as well to get some comparison and his car was only running around a 17.50 or so give or take.

You'll run slower than people at lower elevations. I got to see some nice cars run at Douglas, WY once. But cars seemed to be running a full scond slower than I expected. And 91 Octane at 4000' is way overkill for a stock engine.

Just correcting by elevation, your second run corrects to a 15.99 @ 86.29. Judging by your 60' times, the track either sucked, or your launchin techniques need work, but either way, with a good launch at a decent track, your solidly in the 15's.

elevation is probably what's killing you the most. your 60' times are wayyy high. so go find a back road somewhere and practice your launching. air your front tires down A LOT. i would say between 20 and 25 psi. and air up the rears to 40.

also try taking out more than just the passenger seat, it only weighs like 20 pounds, get rid of some more stuff and it could help a little. make sure there's no spare tire/jack/subwoofer/amp/dead people...etc etc. and yeah 91 octane isn't going to help, silly.

good luck in the future.
