2.4 Sunfire GT times

Ok guys,

I just got a 1996 sunfire GT m5, and I'm curious what these things usually run in the quarter. Its all stock, but I have an intake and short throw on order. I'm used to modding mustangs, so i'm not sure what some good upgrades are, and I would like to stay away from an aftermarket exhaust if at all possible. But can someone give me the specs on this engine, like injectors, hp, tq, maf and tb size....etc, or at least post a link for this info. I've never done anything with a 4cylinder, or ohcs for that matter, and am kinda stoked about getting into this car. My goals are to be in the low 15s N/A if at all possible. thanks guys,

Lenny

The slowest 2.4L N/A in our top-5 list is running 15 flat.

With the car mostly stock, I'd expect high 15's on a good day or low 16's on average.

What are some good performace hop-ups to get me down into that region?

i would say a air intake, header and a cat back exhaust, pulley . and it might be time for new motor mounts too. so here is a link where to get mounts http://www.carcustoms.net/product_info.php?cPath=265_22_32_593&products_id=100

well, I know its a different animal, but I was able to get my Bone Stock 94 5.0 down to a 14.6, when most of the ppl I knew were in the low 15s. If that helps at all????

I have intake, header, ful exhaust, TB, motor mounts, cam swap, running 14.83. There has been some freak cars in the past pulling low 15's with just a intake, and cat-back exhausts. You might be able to do that.

Well I g-teched the car today, and I was extremely dissapointing. 16.7 at 82mph w/ a 2.2 60ft. Any ideas???? Cuz I know thats dissapointingly slow. Maybe the motor is just tired? there is 130k on the clock, so I dunno.

Sooo close to 11s.....And so far away w/the j-body. The project begins

Yea, but even if the G-tech is .5 of a second off, (which is a lot for those, usually 2-3tenths) I'm still real slow. Even 16.2 is pretty slow for one of these cars, isn't it??

Not really. Read my first response here. Low 16's is perfectly reasonable, depending on a lot of conditions.

And if you're not actually going to a track and plan on depending on your g-tech for your "racing" times, perhaps this should be moved to the armchair-racer forum.

G-tech numbers are not reliable and are not discussed in this forum.
