FIRST FWD IN NOPI HISTORY OVER 200MPH
Monday, October 17, 2005 12:02 AM
the GM Ecotec motor has once again proven itself to be the baddest mamajamma on the block. Marty Ladwig in an exibition run at the 2005 NOPI World Finals from Norwalk, OH ran....are you ready...7.29 seconds at 201MPH!!!!

Marty is now the ONLY Pro FWD driver to ever run 200+MPH under both IHRA and NHRA rules.

Congrats to Marty Ladwig on a great showing...and thanks for the autograph and chit-chat session. Congrats to Gary on the championship win and records. You both really took the gloves off and showed everyone what they gotta watch out for next year. THE BIG, BAD ECOTEC!!

Marty, Gary, and both the crews were really nice to me and really ready and willing to answer all the questions I had for them. I have to say a big thanks for that because I was asking the engineers and crew members about everything I could when they weren't busy.

I used to race cars, now I race myself.

There would not likely not be a weight handicap because they are doing nothing unfair. It is still a four cylinder and it is not rear wheel drive. The ECOtec is just so efficient.

yeah and didnt the last time they did it make them faster. they added the weight to the front and just whent that much quicker. I am so sick and tired of the ecos getting no street cred. every mag you see its 4g6 this and 2jz that and once in a while some schmuck will bring up that all the winners where running the "ECHOTEK" bastards, but whatever.

ecos are the shady guy in high school that no one talks to but hes the one whos faster and better then everyone else.

I also witnessed this run, and as the numbers sank in, the chills went down my spine. Man, it looked good! History was made, and a six-second FWD car seems almost inevitable now!

Chances are the Ecotec won't be hurt by more rules as a result. The biggest controversy, really, has been the transmissions; specifically, the HydraMatic Auto 4T65 used in Marty's Sunfire and Gardella's Cobalt. Marty's Pro FWD Cobalt uses a more conventional X-Trac manual longitudinal transaxle, which is typical in this class.

Also, Pro FWD is the place where it's allowed to 'all hang out', whereas Hot Rod/Pro 4-Cylinder (where the Sunfire and Gardella run) is more of a restricted class.

Kudos again to Marty and crew!

This is just a generic thing with the ecotecs kicking ass at the track and Cadillacs kicking ass in the Speed World Challenge.

They keep adding weight to "even the field" and they just keep getting faster.

i get that exact quote all the time.
me: "You wanna race?"
them: "What you got?"
me: "Cavalier"
them: "Ecotec?"
me: "Yeah with a little work done."
them: "No thanks."

I get that from guys with fairly well modified cars too.

Thats cause both run 6's and actually have fast cars on the street in real life

Between the c6r, the caddy's, and the ecotec FWD cars; Gm is doing some awesome things with motorsports this year. What was Marty Ladwig's previous best? I saw that time and almost @!#$ my pants!! I was amazed at all the records broken at norwalk last weekend, so many cars were just flying.
