'99Z24 vs. old Teggy LS

Well, the funny part is that she (yes I said she, as in the chick driving the teggy) treed me hard! I was sleeping at the tree with a .472 reaction time, ouch. She cut a .015 reaction time which absolutely blows my mind. Unfortunately for her, her luck ran out there......... Here's the slip info......

Me Her

RT........472 .015
60'........2.025 3.416 (and I hear people complaining about 2.4's!)
1/8th....8.616 14.584 (yes, in the 1/8th)
mph....79.74 55.68
1/4.......13.538 21.120
mph....98.08 78.89

Now, I was running crappy times all night, and never trapped over 100 mph, which absolutely blows. I'm used to trapping 103-105 and that was before my header, so I was bumming pretty hard. But this run made me realize it could be worse...... ...much worse. I didn't see the poor 'ol teg in the staging lanes after that.

I'm guessing the motor was beat, backed by a beat auto trans. How else could you run a time like that? Geez.

theres no way she ran a 14 something in an 1/8 of a mile. was she even trying?

I hope not, really. If she was, you do realize it takes her more than 15 seconds to reach 60 mph.

I'm sure. I was expecting more like 17 seconds or so in the quarter with traps around 84ish or so. Like I said though, it had to be a beat motor/trans combo. I'm saving the slip though, it's too funny. I'll probably get around to scanning it in a couple days.

And BlackZ2401, I'm actually very suprised with the trap speeds as well. Even the 1/8th mile traps are crap. I would never have expected that I could still run a 13.5 with such a crappy trap speed. Now, I'm sure the 2.0 60' helped, but I'm still a little perplexed. The power is definately dropping off fast after the 1/8th. I need to figure out how to get my traps back up to and beyond the 103-105's Im used to. I have a gut feeling I know what it is, and I don't like it (it's gonna be alot of work, again )

BTW, I don't really feel this belongs in the racing forum. I think this is the type of post that belongs in the VS forum, since it's not really an informative type thread, just entertainment. If this thread doesn't belong in the VS forum, then the VS forum really IS useless. I put it here to be an example of what kind of VS threads are appropriate, but I guess that makes too much sense.

Dang, no edit button. I'll be a happy camper the day Dave decides to put one in. Anyway, you get that I was trying to quote you there, baggedcav98, right?

what where your 60' pre drag radials. plus drag radials and slicks will drop the trap speeds cause your getting better traction

60's were 2.1's before drag radials, and traps were 103 before. My 2nd last time to the track I had the DR's and ran 2.0 second 60's and 105 mph traps. Last time, there were some other issues I'm testing with right now to find the source. I was still cutting 2.0's, but traps were around 97-99 mph. So there is a problem that's costing me at least 6-7 mph and probably a good half second. I have a feeling I know what it is, but I haven't confirmed it yet. BTW, I made a thread about 6 months ago disspelling the myth that better 60' times decrease trap speeds. In fact, the only thing that correlates between the two is rolling resistance. Airing down the front tires to increase traction will affect traps somewhat, but there is usually a good compromise where the tractions benefits aren't making up for the last half of the track (normal street tires usually see this point below 25-26 psi).

I hope it's not because of engine wear

It was put together correctly. I did it, lol. But I used parts that were lying around the garage because I was in a time/money crunch. It gets me around town, but it shifts hard and makes a nice gear whine in 4th and 5th. The gearsets were pretty beat, and I had to rehab them the best I could with what I had. I'm collecting parts now for a built trans that hopefully will last longer under stress. Hopefully......
