Monday, March 20, 2006 6:13 AM
well my first time at the track and im a lil disappointed. makes me wanna sell my cav.
i have a 97 cav convertable 2.4l. i do have it on 17s and it does have 135,000 miles on it ;(
upper and lower motor mounts.
s.w. intake
magna -hi-flow cat convert
2.5 catback with a borla muffler.
b&m shiftplus.(was working)

First run second run third run
R&T .633 .613 .555
60' 2.353 2.535 2.496
330 6.720 6.899 7.039
1/8 10.353 10.703 10.716
mph 67.76 67.84 67.02
1000 13.505 13.944 13.897
1/4 16.232 16.678 16.641
mph 82.54 82.76 82.09

So my reaction time got quicker and quicker yet i got slower and slower. wtf that about.

Well your car weighs 149 LBS more than a coupe Z24. Try preloading the car a little, your RTs got better but your 60' sucked. You will get there, you have a 15 second car there definantly. I went 15.52 with header intake and exhaust, but I have a 5 speed. Put your stock wheels back on for less rotating mass and you will be in the 15s all day long.

well yea each time i preloaded a lil more than the first. with the first being not preloaded at all. its an auto with the shiftplus-i just held the pedal down the whole time so i dont know why my times got slower. i mean i figured the header and exhaust would help put me there with the rest of the mods i got but man-this sucked a$$.
i thought the shiftplus would make it similar or a lil better the a 5speed?

im def going to have to get 2 stock tires from a junk yard

your 60' time didn't get any better though,
you have 17;s convertibles are heavier.

well the thing is i had a convertable and 17s all 3 run times!!! my reaction times got better but it seems that preloading made me a lil slower(first run i didnt preload-but dd the last time). being it an auto i dont see shifting being the issue with why it got slower. next time im going to run it first w/o the shiftplus on

Were the runs back to back or did you get a break in between them? Cause from looking at it I'd say as the car heated up it slowed down.

i have a 97 z24 automatic, i ran 16.26 with my stock rims, but with short ram intake, headers, stock cat, and 2.5 custom cat-back.
i dont know about now that i have 17in rims but i have magnaflow cat and waiting to change the TB.
i hope to hit at least the 15's

Note that reaction times have absolutely no effect on your 1/4 mile time.

LOL..... reaction times got better...... R/T HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH YOUR E/T.... You could sit on the line for a week and a half after the light turned green, and still run the same ET as if you had a perfect R/T. Anyway, your launches sucked, plain and simple. Get those down and your E/T will drop. But your car is also pretty heavy, being a convertible, and that engine is probably getting tired by now. I wouldn't be expecting too much out of it.

how you get launches better? ive tried both preloading and not preloading. is ther a certain rpm i should stay at until the light turns? i have an auto so i dont see what im doing wrong since both preloading and not didnt change too much in time and my shifts should be the same everytime. any help is appreciated.

A shallow stage might help a tad too.

Now some other things. Are you spinning your tires any? Wheel hop? Bogging the engine? Slipping transmission? I hate to say it though, some Lucas tranny fix, restore, and sea foam might help ya out a bit too.

a small chirp, not spinning too much. whats bogging the engine/wheel hop? srry im a newb at the racing thing.

keep practicing

Re: wtf track times!

Best way to describe a bogging engine is when you miss a gear with a standard transmission, like you try to hit 3rd at WOT and instead hit 5th... that's a bogging engine.

Wheel hop is caused by unecessary longitudinal flex in your suspension, it causes the wheels to 'skip' or 'hop' as you launch. If you had it you'd probably be able to feel it in your steering wheel. Solutions include stiffer motor and transmission mounts, and lower control arm bushings. Wheel hop can easily kill CV halfshafts if not taken care of.

those are about normal times

how to launch the car depends on you , and your car each is different , you just gotta find what works best for you

from a search, seems like there not too normal. alot of people are in the mid 15s with the same or less mods. whats a good rpm for autos to launch at?
Re: wtf track times!
Tuesday, March 21, 2006 8:56 AM
i had it on 2500 and i almost got stuck spinning the tires i had to lift a little the foot of the gas and hit it again. so i went about 1500 to 2000rpm. it spin but not for long.

reaction time only matters if you're competing or dodging bullets.
