Hypsy makes a big move
Monday, April 24, 2006 2:21 PM
Well I decided to run a full bracket series this year instead of just a few test and tunes and some other events. Well I had my first race yesterday. Didn't finish particularly good, as I broke out in the first round, but with a HUGE step-up in my times. In my 2 qualifying runs I ran a 13.02 off a 2.108 60 foot and a 12.93 on a 2.103 60 foot.

In my one, and only , elimination run I dialed in at 13.00 seconds. I hit I nice 2.036 60 foot and had a terrific 1-2 sequence (no spin or hop) and obliterated my run. About the 1000 foot mark I hit the brakes since I was past the other car but all the managed to do was bring me to a 12.844 seconds @ 112.8 MPH. Judging by the split times and other runs of the same splits I was looking at a 12.60 or 12.70 run on drag radials at 12PSI.

I can't wait till next week when I get to run again. I'm gonna use one of my qualifying runs to go all out and see what she has in her. I love running a track that actually has traction.

Oh and if your wondering what the big move was....it's the fact that I potentially just dropped .2 off my best times without changing a thing

It certainly sucked to have lost but even I had to see the positive side of that time. I finally made a full pass without any valve float and man it felt good. I hit the boost switch about half track, maybe later, just to make sure I was past the other guy but I think I held into it too long. Next time it's low boost (11-12PSI) the full run. NO high boost kick unless I really kill it off the line. I think next week will be a lot better if I just remember to race the clock and not worry so much about the other driver and just do my thing. If I run my numbers then the rest will fall into place.

Hypsy, what the hell makes you think you will float the valves??
I have hit 350 to the wheels many times and NO valve float whatsoever!!
Still on stock springs.

Good luck man, you coming down to Florida, maybe me and you can do heads up racing.

What the hell makes me think they will float? The fact that we have proven mine HAVE floated in the past. In real life trials and on the dyno. That's what. For whatever reason I got a weak set or something and they start floating about 14-15PSI. That's the biggest reason I'm stepping up to the Patriot Stage 2 head.

you have to worry about your time AND the car beside you you want to just barely edge his front wheels then you know your not going to break out

unless he gets a better RT than you and runs close to his number and you sleep on the tree lol then your still gonna break out

Well I finally had some time to crunch all the numbers from all 3 of my runs. Here's what we found.
Average times at Byron over best 3 runs of first visit this year:
RT: .014
60 ET: 2.081
330 ET: 5.686
660 ET: 8.566
660 MPH: 84.49
1000 ET: 11.063
1320 ET: 13.167
1320 MPH: 106.85

Average times at Route 66 over all 3 runs on first visit of year (and 3rd ever):
RT: .121
60 ET: 2.088
330 ET: 5.639
660 ET: 8.479
660 MPH: 85.66
1000 ET: 10.899
1320 ET: 12.935
1320 MPH: 109.99

I won't bore and confuse you with the other split times I calculate out but I will give you the synapsis of all this information.

RT: About even. Not a whole lot the track can affect that once I get my launch down for the particular track.
60 ET: Again almost dead even. Once again based on driver adaptations.
330 ET: Only .047 seconds difference but you can see a trend starting to emerge as the car starts pulling after the 2-3 shift.
660 ET: Now at .087 seconds in difference. Starting to pull away from the previous best track and its times.
660 MPH: Over a MPH better at Route 66 than Byron. Car is moving down low a bit better.
1000 ET: 4th gear. Now we're at .164 seconds difference. Car is making use of that low end advantage 66 has over Byron. Car seems to pull harder at a consistent 12PSI than at 15PSI till this point.
1320 ET: Topping out 4th gear. Over .200 of a second difference (.232 to be exact) at the line. Car definately pulls harder on a flat 12PSI than at 14-15PSI throughout the run.
1320 MPH: OVER 3 MPH BETTER! 3.140 MPH to be exact. Car is pulling hard now!
