stock 1//4 times for a 2.2 5spd

Anyone have an idea of what a stock 2.2 5spd in a sunfire would run...I assume somewhere around 16.8 or more?

my buddy(he's on here, Sleight) has run a best of 16.98, IIRC. 97 sunfire 2.2/5 speed. He only had an intake and maybe a muffler, i dont remember what all he had done when he ran that, it was like a year ago or something

Ive seen guys crack low 16s bone stock, they were some good drag racers though, you can get some killer starts out of that engine, its the top end which really suffers

So maybe with intake,a header, full exhaust, engine and tranny mounts a short throw shifter and a great lauch with amazing shiftingi could hit 15's???

I figure that could take me to around 120-125hp if i am lucky

yup

theres a guy that used to be on here that ran 15s with all that stuff NA with a 3 speed auto, so I know it can be done, a big help is shedding some extra weight

Yeah, i'd like to see him hit at least low 16's or so, before we attempt the 3400 swap..... He's got a cat-back and a hi flow cat now, he'll soon probably be getting a STS,header, and some other stuff

My best was a 16.3. I also hit a 16.4, two 16.7s and my slowest was a 16.8

I know I could have hit at least a 16.0 (i just didnt run it enough to play with it much)... my 16.3 run was odd - i bounced off the rev limiter in 3rd multiple times before i crossed the line and i felt the major loss in momentum and that could have shown a reall nice time.... But ive been told to keep it in 3rd.

I tried shifting into 4th the next run and hit the 16.4.

the 16.3/16.4 run were with 2.1 or 2.2 60 fts

my best was 16.15 with my sunfire with the 1997 2.2 5spd sunfire and a 16.9 with the 1998 2.2 cavi 5spd both bone stock with those times

the 95-97 came with different engines, which made 120 hp, and 130 ft/lbs of torque. The newer "2200" made 115hp, and 135 ft/lbs. This could probably make for the difference in times. Im guessing they would have different torque curves, and that could potentially make a difference aswell.

Well last summer at KCIR i committed in High School Drags with a 96 2.2 cavie with a OBX Header and a 2.5" inch Cat into the stock exhaust and an intake on stock tires i was running a 16.4 I also let the temp run between the Cold and the first Tick mark with a slight burnout i lunched about 3 to 3500 i think because i don't have a tach but i still took 4th place out at High School Drags i was very happy

When i had my old 99 rs i had a @!#$ time at the track of 18.2 sec @ 84mph. Pretty pathetic... had a 2200 with a 4 speed auto and cold air.

last weekend i competed in high school drags again and ran a 16.10 with an intake, 2.5"cat and header, cat-back exhaust and a cut down shifter and wheels and tires.

he's talking about the old 2.2... the OHV

the OHV makes 115hp at the flywheel.. so bone stock try like 95hp to the wheels.

and catback systems don't really do jack.. the entire exhaust system together is what makes a difference, and even that will only yield so much without tuning.. especially on the OHV

Either in the 1/8th or you have a 200 shot of NOS

No I have time slips to prove my times will post when i get a chance and as far as having a 200 shot of nitrous this is not the case my car is all motor 2200 sfi with a getrag 5 speed with intake header and 2.5 full aluminized exhaust with no cat and a magnaflow muffler with a 3 in outlet and minor weight reduction with a partial ac delete. And the distance is 1000 feet which is like 200 feet or so shorter than a 1/4 mile.
