First Ecotec on the dirt oval...
Monday, February 18, 2008 1:34 PM
I was talking to the guy at my local dirt oval track and told him I was thinking of taking this 2003 sunfire on the track and he stated it would be the first one on the track that's newer than 2000 so that means I'm gonna be the first ecotec out there.. Before I get flamed for abusing a new car first understand that the car is a mess! Every panel is phucked and there's no saving it. I'm going to beat out the major dents, pull the glass and interior install a cage and go racing. I need a few things like a fuel cell, racing seat, and 4 point harness but I should have the car dirt track ready by the end of the summer. I'll practice racing it this coming winter and be ready for next year! My main competition is a Dodge Omni, a mess of Escorts and 2 first gen neons.

The car must remain stock so I will have to do some revisions to it. This is the car I was talking about that I found in the junk yard and has a turbo kit on it that I'm installing on my cavalier. I will be taking the car done to almost nothing and selling the extra parts so if you need some 03+ sunfire parts let me know! I'm also looking for some major sponsorships so if you know someone looking to sponsor this car let me know!

apparently nobody cares about an ecotec on the dirt oval... lol whatever I started looking the car over a little better and the whole freakin uni-body is twisted I don't know what the guy who wrecked was doing but he jacked this up bad! It's to bad to be used for anything... I'm just pulling the interior, motor, trans, and turbo then scraping the rest. I'm gonna get pictures of it on here soon to try to find the old owner!

just out of curiosity, if you're gonna tear this thing apart... I'm looking for the complete engine harness for a 5 speed Eco car with ABS and A/C.

I used to run hornets (dirt oval) but when they changed the local rules to no DOHC I dropped out

They let twin cam 16 valve cars compete with SOHC 8 valve cars? Sounds odd.... Have you made sure that the ecotec is legal for whatever class you plan to race in? As in, actually cleared it with a track official?

This isn't going ot happen anymore after closer inspection of the unibody.. It's just to twisted to ever drive again! But yes they allow DOHC motors on the track the most popular car in our local Hornet class is the Ford Escort GT. They say domestic cars only but they allow those and they make good power so it's a favorite around here. (that motor is a Mazda BP motor for those of you who don't know) The GT has a 1.8L DOHC 16valve motor and makes like 130hp, which makes it great for that event. You have to be a minimum of 3000lbs w/driver and the cars motor must remain stock so it doesn't matter how light it was originaly it's about picking the car that makes the most power originaly.

Now that this car is going to be parted out instead of raced I would consider it, but i'm planning on doing a 5speed swap in my 05 cavi and I'm gonna need that! I'll have interior pieces for sale. (not including the cluster I'm swapping that too).

I will have a nearly complete sunfire coupe interior, trunk carpet, and the 4t40E out of my cavalier and the wiring harness for an ecotec auto with ac (no abs). I'm keeping the extra Ecotec, swaping the 5peed, and installing the turbo. After that I will be scraping the shell at the steel yard to get the $150 it took to get the car and get it home...
